Charleston Bermuda Race Set To Get Underway
The ninth running of the Charleston to Bermuda Race is set to get underway with the Warning Signal for Rally Fleet Start scheduled for Wednesday [May 15] and the Warning signal for First Class Start on Friday [May 17].
This 777-mile biennial contest, which began in 1997, was born of humble origins — the dream of two South Carolina sailors bent on creating offshore adventure for themselves and their friends.
“This edition of the race will feature some new, educationally oriented twists that will make it a valuable experience for the avid racer as well as the casual cruiser who is preparing for extended offshore voyaging”, the race website says.
The organizers have pledged to tailor the race based on the entries with the possibility of a staggered start to insure that all entrants arrive in Bermuda in time to participate in the annual festivities of Bermuda Day depending on the weather and the power of the wind.
