Prodigy Sailing Foundation Launches
The Prodigy Sailing Foundation has been established in Bermuda to create structured, affordable sailing pathways for young people, with the aim of increasing inclusivity and reducing financial barriers in the sport.
A spokesperson said, “Prodigy Sailing Foundation has been established to build structured sailing pathways for young people in Bermuda, expanding access to progression in a sport that is often perceived as costly and limited in available spaces.
“Sailing has long been part of Bermuda’s identity, but for many families it remains difficult to access beyond introductory experiences. The cost of equipment, coaching, and membership, combined with limited programme capacity, means that not every young person who wants to continue sailing is able to do so. As a result, progression opportunities are often restricted to a relatively small number of participants.
“Prodigy Sailing Foundation has been created to help address this gap by increasing capacity and reducing financial barriers to progression. Rather than replacing existing clubs, Prodigy aims to work in partnership with them to provide structured, affordable pathways that allow more young people to develop their skills over time.
“The Foundation was established by Geovanni Hayward, a Bermudian sailing coach and programme leader with experience across youth sailing, race coaching, and community-based sport development. His background includes work focused on supporting young sailors to continue progressing through practical assistance and financial support, alongside coaching and programme leadership grounded in Bermuda’s maritime culture.”
“Sailing in Bermuda has strong traditions and clear pathways,” said Geovanni Hayward, Founder of Prodigy Sailing Foundation. “The challenge is that those pathways are not accessible to every young person who wants to progress. Prodigy exists to expand opportunity by increasing capacity and supporting progression in a more affordable and inclusive way.”
The spokesperson said, “Prodigy will begin with a carefully designed pilot year delivered through the Prodigy Model. The pilot year will include regular, structured on-water sessions, small-group coaching, clear progression stages aligned with age, experience, and readiness, and a strong emphasis on safety and consistency. The programme is also heritage infused, connecting young people to Bermuda’s maritime history and culture as part of their development.
“This pilot-first approach allows Prodigy Sailing Foundation to deliver responsibly, learn from implementation, and build a strong foundation for sustainable, year-round programming in the future.”
“This is a measured start,” Hayward added. “Our focus is on building something that expands opportunity without compromising quality, safety, or long-term sustainability.”
The spokesperson said, “Over the coming weeks, Prodigy Sailing Foundation will be sharing more about its model, partnerships, and plans as it prepares for its first season of programming.
