Photos: Bermuda Defeat USA In WCL 3 Cricket

[Updated with photo gallery] Bermuda defeated the USA today [May 4] as the two teams met up at the National Sports Centre with Bermuda recording a 5 wicket victory, and retaining their spot in Division 3 with the win.

USA won the toss and elected to bat first, they scored 220/9 in their allotted 50 overs, Akeem Dodson was their top scorer with 50, while Neil McGarrell added 45, Malachi Jones was the pick of the Bermuda bowlers with figures of 10-1-48-3.

In reply Chris Douglas scored 89 to lead Bermuda to victory. Douglas scored his runs off 75 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes, while captain Stephen Outerbridge and Janeiro Tucker both added 37. Four USA bowlers grabbed a wicket each. The full scorecard can be found here.

Today’s match was attended by legendary West Indies cricket player Brian Lara, who flew in to Bermuda to lend support to the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League [WCL] Division 3. In other action today, Nepal defeated Italy in St David’s, while Oman beat Uganda in Somerset.

Nepal will now join Uganda, who had already qualified top of the group, at next year’s World Cup Qualifiers to compete for a chance to play at the main event in Australia and New Zealand during early 2015.

      Today and the time before they met. Bermuda has won 2 in a row against USA, not bad, 50,000 nationals vs 300m.

    Well done Bermuda, USA is the pick of the World and you guys performed very well, They have Indians, Caribbeans, Maybe 1 American with 500 million to choose from, we have about 120 players to make a team from… Great job lads !!!!!!!!!!

    We always only had about 120 players to pick from but that never stopped us when we had Coe Trott, Clarence Parfitt! Sad Brown, Randy Horton! Lloyd James, El James and others! There is no excuse other than the 11 we pick to play are just not good enough right now! It’s not their fault however as the quality of cricket is horrible! Look at Bangledash! They are getting better faster than anybody thought they could because they are continually playing against top opposition! If you get our players good opposition from overseas you will see big improvement from our players! They did great yesterday and I believe that this 11players can go far if we get them out of the island to play against quality more often!
