Soldier Disciplined After Assaulting Another

May 5, 2013

The Bermuda Regiment confirmed that one soldier was disciplined after what they termed an assault on another soldier during the annual training exercise at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

The incident happened on Thursday morning [May 2] and the victim received superficial wounds. The US Marine Corps Police were called in, and they decided the matter would be best dealt with internally.

Regiment Adjutant Major Ben Beasley said, “The Regiment demands the highest standards of professional and personal conduct from its personnel and we take any allegations of assault very seriously.”

“The victim’s superficial wounds were treated at the scene by Regiment medics and returned to duty immediately. As is normal practice, the appropriate local law enforcement agency – in this case the US Marine Corps Police- were called in.

“Their officers carried out a full investigation and decided the matter would be best dealt with internally. The soldier concerned has already been dealt with by Commanding Officer Lt Col Brian Gonsalves and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further,” concluded Major Beasley.

  1. Family Man says:

Would this be part of the “character building” the pro-enlistment group so often touts?

    • RME says:

Yup. Because at least now this young “man” has been disciplined and shown that there are consequences to his actions. Probably something he’s never been taught before.

      • Zombie Apocalypse says:

And how was he ‘disciplined’, exactly?

Was he rebuked by his commanding officer? Or made to do 50 pushups?

I’m sure that makes the victim of the assault feel great.

If there is no choice but to attend the regiment, the least the regiment can do is make it a safe place. They constantly fail to do that. There have been assaults, including sexual assaults, for years. It’s no wonder no-one wants to go.

        • Cole00Cash says:

I’m pretty sure this young man is sitting in a cell and then having to do some heavy labour until his return to Bermuda where he’ll probably spend some more time in a cell along with a hefty fine.

          • Zombie Apocalypse says:

How are you “pretty sure” of that?

Your comments sound like pure guesses.

Haivng seen the regiment’s previous lack of willingness to deal with abuse and assaults I wouldn’t be surprised, frankly, if the disciplinary action isn’t done and finished already.

    • DarkSideofTheMoon says:

Wow, did you really just correlate enlistment with assault?

  2. Nuffin but da Truth says:

typical of Bermuda’s boys, bringing shame on bermuda and their Family.

The US should have dealt with this person too.

    • Grizz says:

Should have dealt with him because of a fight…good grief it ain’t that steep

    • BS says:

      “typical of Bermuda’s boys”

You sound like someone who’s anti Bermudian. What Country did you migrate from? This is not typical of most Bermuda’s boys as you label them. The majority are on the right path. Only a few have lost sight of their golds in life.

      • Sorry Sir says:

        lmao.

Not everybody whose opinion differs from yours is from another country.

If you’ve never gone on a single trip with the Regiment, then you really are oblivious to how they act when they go on camp leave.

Sadly, this is typical of Bermudian boys when they go out on Regiment Training.

    • andre says:

I take offense at you saying typical of Bermuda’s Boys. You should take offense at it!

  3. Robert Daniels says:

It was a fight people. Move on nothing to see here…

  4. ABM says:

Im sorry all, but what if this fight stemmed from sexual harrassment?? How would you view it then?

Point is, none of you know the circumstances regarding exactly what took place, so before you judge any of these young men, take a step back to think for a moment.

  5. Sorry Sir says:

Out of all the fights that happen in th Regiment, this was news worthy?

    Must have been pretty serious.

  6. Soldier says:

If you don’t have anything nice to say or don’t know what actually happened then stfu. It weren’t that bad. Stop hatin on the regiment because you too p***y to join.

    • Sorry Sir says:

Dude, over 95% of the soldiers there did not “Join”, they were recruited through conscription.

You think you guys are the the first lot to walk through Warwick camp? Been there, done that.
