Machete Charge, Man Pleads Guilty, Remanded
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [June 19] 41- year-old Ross Parsons was remanded into custody after he admitted to being in possession of a machete on June 10, 2013.
After Police had been called to Dundonald Street area, they searched Mr Parsons and found the bladed article, with its 16 inch blade, fastened in a sheath inside his trouser leg. He said he was carrying the article for work, however the Magistrate noted he had past criminal convictions.
Telling Mr Parsons that a conviction for possessing a bladed article carried a mandatory prison sentence of at least three years, Senior Magistrate Archie Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report [SIR] before his sentencing date in August 2013.
The Magistrate told Mr Parsons that he was going to impose an immediate custodial sentence and that the only matter was for how long. Magistrate Warner said that the SIR would help determine that.
