BBFS First Day At Brondby Cup In Denmark

The Bermuda Brazilian Football School travelled to Denmark on July 19 to participate in three youth football tournaments and are in the midst of their second tournament, the Brondy Cup.

A spokesperson said, “BBFS opened their participation in the Brondy Cup with a 3-1 loss and a 10-0 win. The U12 group consist of 8 teams in a round robin league format. The objective of BBFS is to aim for a top 4 placing, as we compete against some of the best academy teams in Denmark.

“The day started with a very challenging match vs the U12 tournament favorites FC Nordsjaelland. Nordsjaelland are ranked in the top three in Denmark in the U12′s and have one of the top youth academy programs. Their Premier division team competed in the group stages of the Champions League last season.

“BBFS was informed of the high quality of FCN and decided to play a more defensive formation for the first 20 minutes. After the first half the score was 1-1 with FCN scoring first. San- Tze Burgess brought BBFS back into to match with a world class taken free kick.

“BBFS managed to contain FCN until the last 10 minutes when they scored on a quick counter and via a penalty.

“The second match saw BBFS play vs FC Toyuan of Taiwan and the score was 1-0 after 2 minutes. BBFS continued to score at will with goals from Richard (Reese) Jones Jr. , San – Tze Burgess, Erik and Jarryd Richardson all scoring 2 with Ilhan Gibbons and Rahzir Smith – Jones scoring 1.

“The boys are tired after 8 games in 5 days but have shown character in their role as global ambassadors for Bermuda.

“All of the tournament teams and their parents have been surprised by our level of play and that we have traveled this far to compete against the best teams in Denmark and Sweden. Tomorrow we face Olystykke FC of Denmark and IFK Grimsley of Sweden”.
