Football: Bermuda Defeat Greenland, Win Golds

Both the men’s and women’s Bermuda football teams defeated Greenland this evening [July 18] to claim gold medals in the NatWest Island Games.

The first game was the women’s match, which saw regulation time end with a score of 0-0. The match went into overtime, which ended with a score of 0-0 again, sending the match into penalties. Bermuda ended up emerging victorious, with goalkeeper Stacy Babb coming through with two key saves.

After the women’s match, the men took the field as enthusiastic crowds lined the pitch. The first half ended with a score of 0-0. The second half continued with neither team finding the back of the net, and just when it looked like the men’s game might be heading into overtime as well, the referee awarded a penalty.

Drewonde Bascome converted the penalty in the 88th minute, and the clock soon ran out, with the Bermuda men walking away with a 1-0 victory, and the gold medal.
