Cricket Game Called Off Due To Toronto Storm

July 9, 2013

The Bermuda U/19 cricket squad’s match which was scheduled for today [July 9] in Canada has been called off due to the severe weather conditions last night.

A record-breaking storm hit the city, with the torrential rain and squalls downing trees, floodeing subway stations, stranding motorists and knocking out power.

All of Toronto’s subway service was temporarily halted, and one train became stuck in floodwaters up to the lower windows, and over a 7 hour period police and firefighters used small inflatable boats to ferry over 1,000 passengers away to higher ground.

A BCB spokesperson said, “Due to the severe storm in Toronto last night – 125mm of rain in one hour – today’s U19 game has been called off. Players and coaching staff are all safe.

“The game yesterday was abandoned due to rain and it was a ‘no result’ – for a result to be calculated the team batting second must have had the opportunity for at least 20 overs. USA is scheduled to play Canada tomorrow.”
