Pacers Heading To North Carolina Track Meet

While many of Bermuda’s senior track and field athletes will be competing in the 2013 Natwest Island Games in Bermuda, many of the island’s junior athletes are heading abtoard to compete in a track events in the United States this weekend.

This weekend the Bermuda Pacers Track Club will be making their 32nd appearance at the Russell E. Blunt EastCoast Invitational Track Meet. This year’s event will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium in North Carolina.

The 33 member team will see 12 athletes making their début appearance. The team will compete in 83 individual events, three 4 x 400 and one 4 x100 metres relay events.

The three day competition will begin on Friday, July 19, 2013 and conclude on Sunday, July 21, 2013. The event will see approximately 100 teams’ representative over two thousand athletes.

This year’s team will be lead by middle distance runners Rachel Fox, and Juma Mouchette.. Day one of the competition will see the athlete compete in the 3000 metres, the 200 metre trials, the 4×400 metre semi finals, high jump, long jump and triple jump. D

Day two of the competition will be 1500m, 100 metre trials, 200 metre semis, 400 metre semis high jump and long jump. The final day of the competition will see the 800 metre finals, 100metre, 200 metre 400 metre and relay finals.

During last year’s event the team won a record 34 medals and placed second overall out of 0ne hundred teams.

  • 15-16: Azaire Smith, Jaymie Darrell, Jahtia Smith
  • 17-18: Rachel Fox and Taahira Butterfield

Boys Team

  • 9-10: DeAndre Warner, Seth Hardtmen, Kazhi Sealy
  • 11-12: Sajan Harvey, Jayden Ming, Clevonte Lodge –Bean, Jaiden Furbert-Jacobs, Ryan Outerbridge
  • 13-14: Elisha Darrell and Aaron Jacobs
  • 15-16: Jahmari Sutton and Jared Lawrence
  • 17-18: Juma Mouchette

The Team leaves Bermuda today [July 17] and returns next Tuesday July 23, 2013
