Photos: 2013 Island Games Tennis Matches
Friday [July 19] saw the team of Bermuda’s Thomas and Towlson reach the final of the men’s doubles tennis via wins over Le Cornu/Weaver of Jersey, Catchot/Previ of Menorca and finally McLuskey/Ogier of Guernsey. On their way to the final they did not drop a single set.

On the other side of the net were Clayton/Connelly ranked 3rd seeds, who had a bye in the first round then met Gibraltar’s Taylor/Valverde, then Bermuda’s 1 seeded Bascome/Manders who they dispatched easily in two sets. Despite a solid effort from the Bermudian team, they were no match for the Jersey team losing 2 sets to 0, 6-3, 6-3.

Bermuda ended the Island Games with seven tennis medals; two in the men’s doubles, two in the women’s doubles, two in the team events and one individual gold won by Tyler Smith. The official medal table shows Bermuda in second place with an impressive total of 76 medals – 27 gold, 18 silver and 31 bronze.
