Video: Teens Recognized For Extinguishing Fire
[Updated with video] D’Undre Seymour and Benjamin Furqan were the guests of honour at an award ceremony this morning [July 17] at the Hamilton Fire Station, where they were recognised for their quick thinking actions in extinguishing a small brush fire last week.
The two 14-year-olds were commended by Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley and the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service for their actions.
On July 11th, the BFRS received a report of a brush fire in the area of Berkeley Road, and upon their arrival discovered that the two teenagers had already extinguished the blaze.
Speaking previously, Fire Service spokesperson Lt. Leonard Davis said the two teenagers had noticed the fire starting and ran to a nearby house to retrieve buckets of water to extinguish the fire.
“If they had not reacted so quickly, this fire could have easily started to burn out of control,” said Lt. Davis.
