Women’s Football: Bermuda Lose In Jamaica

July 24, 2013

In their opening match in the Caribbean Football Union Qualifying Tournament game in Jamaica, the Bermuda Women’s U/20 football team was defeated 7-0 by Jamaica.

Jamaica wasted little time establishing control of the match racing to a 6-0 lead after only 36 mins of play in front of the home crowd. Bermuda was reduced to 10 players after 13 mins of play when Precious Cooper was shown a straight red for a foul just outside the Bermuda penalty area.

Bermuda regrouped at half time and played with much improvement in the 2nd half, despite being a player short. Jamaica would only manage to add 1 more goal to the score line in the 2nd half. Aaliyah Nolan was taken to the hospital as a precaution after sustaining a head injury in the match.

It is a slow start that could haunt Bermuda in their bid to progress beyond this stage of qualifying. In the opening match Cuba defeated Curacao 5-0, a result which means Bermuda must defeat Cuba in their next match to have any chance of advancing out of the group.
