590 Ft Azzam: World’s New Largest Superyacht

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is no longer the owner of the world’s largest largest superyacht, with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s newly constructed 590-foot long Azzam taking the title.

The Eclipse graced Bermuda’s shores earlier this year, arriving in St George’s, and then making her way to Hamilton where she spent a few days.

Prior to the Eclipse, the 482-foot Prince Abdulaziz — owned by the Saudi royal family — held the record for 22 years. And before that, the 454-foot Rising Sun was the record-holder.

Eclipse Super Yacht Arrives In Bermuda in January 2013:

Built by German construction company Lürssen Yachts in Bremen, Azzam came to public attention when it launched in April but the owner remained a mystery for the past few weeks. However, according to multiple reports Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the owner of the Azzam.

Reported to cost over $600 million to build, the Azzam will travel in excess of 30 knots, powered by a combination of 2 gas turbines and 2 diesel engines with a total of 94000 horse powers. There is not much known about its features and interior luxuries, which considering the price tag are sure to be substantial.

    I love boats but really, what is the point of these things? They can’t go anywhere. They are too big, draw too much water, can only get into deep water ports where they tie up somewhere & people gawk at them.
