Man Admits Indecent Act At Horseshoe Bay

August 6, 2013

Speaking through an interpreter, 51-year-old Jose Fernando Serodio this morning [Aug 6] pleaded guilty to two charges, with the Court hearing he grabbed his crotch in front of a 15-year-old male teenager, and also grabbed the teenager.

The incident occurred at Horseshoe Bay Beach on August 2nd, 2013, and resulted in Serodio pleading guilty to committing an indecent act in a public place and assaulting the teenager.

Both incidents involved his interaction with a fifteen year-old teenager who was at Horseshoe Beach with his friends. Serodio admitted that he had been swimming, had spoken to and grabbed the teenager.

He also admitted to approaching the teenager and his friends, sitting on the beach in close proximity and grabbing at his own crotch and showing that he was “physically excited” while winking at the teenager.

Police were called and Serodio was pointed out and taken into custody.

Through an interpreter, Serodio said that he had been drinking, and wasn’t aware that what he was doing was an offence. He said that he now realized that his behaviour was inappropriate.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report, granted Serodio bail of $5,000, and required him to provide a surety. Serodio returns to Court on 27th September for sentencing.

  1. Lebron says:

Sounds as though he is a guest worker. I have no problem with guest workers, we all know they are needed, but why are we letting people in to work if they can’t speak English?

    • Brad says:

How about the Bermudians born and raised here who don’t speak English? Got a problem with them?

      • Lebron says:

Yes I have actually. I think it is unacceptable not to be able to speak English as a resident in Bermuda. And if you were born here, lord only knows why you would pass this up.

      • Tommy Chong says:

What do you mean by that? Do you mean those with a strong Bermudian accent or those who speak in slang? If you take someone with a strong Scottish accent & someone with a strong Boston accent they may find it difficult to understand each other but they are both considered english speakers. Now if you ad slang to the accent it can make it more difficult but it’s still english just a colloquial form. Many of the english words today derived from slang & still at present new slang words become part of english dictionaries. Much of the reason why people speak slang in Bermuda & elsewhere is not because they don’t know proper english but because they either use it to represent the clique they hang around or want to trough off nosey eavesdroppers.

        • kiskadee says:

Here we go again with good old Tommy Chong reading every word through the eyes of someone who thinks everyone who posts is a discriminating racist. Do you not realize that both Brad and Lebron are both speaking of NON – ENGLISH speaking people living here? Not people with accents. You’re really a very twisted, angry person who looks for the negative in absolutely everything. It’s sad. Please stop commenting until you can add value.

    • Facts says:

Sounds like he’s GAY as a white rabbit. Next time Serodio stick to someone over the age. It shouldn’t be hard to find someone who likes the same sex on this island.

    • S_M_H says:

He’s one of those selective English speakers. They speak English perfectly well until they get in trouble with the law and then it’s “Duh-me no understand…me no speak a English.”

What a perv. He didn’t know that that kind of thing is unacceptable? I hope they deport his azz ASAP since he doesn’t know what is acceptable in our society.

  2. inna says:

What also bothers me is that the courts are quick to release the names of those committing these types of acts for non-Bermudians, but its always “who cannot be named for legal reasons” for Bermudians!

    • If he is a guest worker let him do his time and deport his perverted ass, if a long term resident with PRC take back his privalege and deport him also.Tired of these sick F—s walking the streets, maybe it is time for some old street justice??Government must also start asking for police reports from all who want to work here from there countries of origin..

      • frank says:

don’t waste money on no report cut his a===s and deport him

        • Tommy Chong says:

A police report doesn’t cost Bermuda anything it is charged to the individual. I’ve been required to produce a police report when working abroad on arrival. BPS charged me close to $200 for the fingerprints & a file that was empty since I had no convictions but the countries policy was completely reasonable to me. Every country should require a police report from all new residents upon arrival.

This guy has been living here for 20 years & could have possibly done this to another child in the past. A few months back there was news of another guest worker who had been living in Bermuda for a while before it was found that they had been convicted of child porn possession in their own country. A police report may help to find out if a foreign worker is a risk to our society. We already have locals who pose a risk & shouldn’t compound the problem.

I do agree with you that foreigners convicted on island should be deported after serving their sentence. We already have a foreigner here who was part of the most heinous crime ever in Bermuda who is still allowed to reside & we don’t need anymore but a report may help curb more arrivals of criminals.

    • S_M_H says:

@inna: For the tenth billion time…if someone is ACCUSED of a sex crime in Bermuda they cannot be named until found guilty! That is because individuals sometimes make untrue allegations that can ruin a man’s life if he is actually innocent. In such a small society as ours, that kind of stigma will follow you around which is unfair if you are innocent.

HOWEVER, if you are found guilty in a court of law or ADMIT guilt from the start like this creep did, you will be named as you are clearly not innocent.

Only those found guilty are named and shamed. Those who aren’t found guilty are not. Get it now???

    • BermudaGirl says:

Right? What is up with that? Bernews?

      • BermudaGirl says:

Sorry, my comment was in reply to Inna@.

        • Bernews says:

As far as the comment by “inna”… nationality doesn’t factor in…it’s the charges.

This person was convicted of assault and an indecent act, which means they can be named.

People cannot legally be named if they have been charged with a sexual assault.

Both Bermudians and non-Bermudians have been named for assault charges, and both Bermudian and non-Bermudians have not been named when charged with sex assaults.

Even in cases where the alleged sex assault didn’t happen in Bermuda or involve Bermudians in any way [incidents happening at sea on Bermuda flagged cruise ships] when they are brought to Bermuda to face charges, we still can’t name them legally.

It’s all dependent on the charges, not nationality.

  3. Nuffin but da Truth says:

    Pervert!

  4. Sigh says:

No problem with guest workers. But honestly this is disgusting deportation is needed! ASAP. Every week someone’s child is being touched by some pervert! Bermudian and non Betmudia. I feel bad for the boy who was just trying to enjoy his holiday.

  5. Barney says:

The parents and others at the beach should have beat this guy to a pulp……

  6. MAKE MY DAY says:

Another “funny” (limp-wristed) bird – by the sound of things!!

Glad he didn’t grab-his-crotch and “wink” at be or he would have had some very sore nu*s for a while!!!

These “people” need to keep this funny business at home!!!

  7. Kindley says:

He should have been sent packing as soon as he left the court house. The island is too small to keep his kind around.

  8. Xmen says:

    $5000 fine
How did he get here in the first place
If he can’t speak English – immigration blunder!
Forget jail we need the money’
Some body get this guy some blue movies

    • Tommy Chong says:

He’s not the only foreign worker on island who can’t speak english. Even though there are many more here who can’t I don’t see this as a problem if their job doesn’t require them to speak to costumers. If the worker may be required to speak to customers they should be able to communicate clearly with the costumer in english.

As for blue movies this will not solve the guy’s problem since child porn is illegal. This guy needs to see psychiatrist since I don’t believe he can comprehend the impact of his actions & won’t until he has had professional help.

      • Deliverance says:

he can see all the psychiatrists he wants, there is NO CURE for pedophilia. unfortunately, we can’t put this man out of his misery either.

        • Tommy Chong says:

As a parent I really hope you’re wrong. There are many out of prison with past pedophile convictions who claim they are cured.

  9. Field N says:

and you all be the first ones to say gay marriage is cool smh..

    • Real Talk (original) says:

Gay marriage is no more related to pedophilia than heterosexual marriage is to rape. Totally unrelated. Like your comment on the topic.

  10. BermudaGirl says:

$5,000??? They give other offenders less bail! Is this because he is NOT Bermudian?

    • Tommy Chong says:

The bail is not that high compared to the offense. Three foreigners were charged the same bail for fraud which I believe anyone would agree is not anywhere close to being as bad as what this guy did. This guy should have never been allowed bail IMO especially since he has admitted to what he did. Now parents will have to keep an eye out for this guy if he makes bail.

  11. K says:

First, let us call him what he is, a PEDOPHILE. Second, his English was good enough on August 2nd to communicate his disgusting perversions to this child. I say we lock him up for a month in the general prison population. Then we strip him of any rights to reside here and deport him back to his country of origin.

  12. Laine says:

@ Tommy Chong- thank you. Your comments make sense.
Every culture and sub culture uses slang or twists words. Yet for years Bermuda has been singled out. Seems like it has become more acceptable to use shortcuts when typing.smh.

  13. Bozey says:

He wants to show off his pen!s?? Good…erect him on the new flag pole on Front Street!! Then put his a$$ in jail!!

  14. blazer says:

@tommy chong, I like you your moderation.

  15. Kathy says:

I’m with you Maria. They wouldn’t ever find the body if this PEDOPHILE came within spitting distance of my boys.
