[Updated with photos of completed sculptures]

Today [Aug 31] the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition took place at Horseshoe Bay Beach. Despite forecasts of poor weather the sun was out and skies were blue. Participants were given 12-by-12 foot building area to showcase their creativity. Prizes for amateur sand sculptors included monetary awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Video below shows competitors getting started with their sculptures:

The Sand Sculpture competition was started 18 years ago by the Institute of Bermuda Architects. Kids and adult teams were both seen working to get their projects started with some having a plan as to what they were going to build, while others were just winging it as they went.

Update 9pm: By the end of the day, Horseshoe Bay Beach was filled with a number of artistic creations including a frog, piano, lionfish, scuba diver and much more. We will update with the full results as able.
