Last Beating Of The Retreat For This Summer
The final Beating of the Retreat Parade in the summer series will be this evening [Sept 25], set to get underway at 8.30pm on Front Street at the Flag Pole.
The guest of honour for the evening will be the Mayor of Hamilton Graeme Outerbridge, and he will be hosted by the Bermuda Regiment Staff Officer Major Joseph Carnegie. The Mayor will take the salute as the Bands march off parade at the end of the evening.
The Bermuda Regiment Band, fresh off of their tour to the Estes Park Scottish-Irish Festival, will play some of the same tunes from that tour. The Band was well-received, especially the Corps of Drums with their rhythmically-choreographed stick drill and display. Estes Park is one of the cities most severely damaged in the recent flooding in Colorado. The Band managed to escape that deluge by less than 24 hours.
“The Band played very well and did Bermuda proud,” says Maj. Dwight Robinson, the Regiment’s Director of Music. “We performed over three nights before a very appreciative audience in near-perfect conditions.
“The Games have been put on without exception for the past 40-odd years and has always been hugely successful. The Band last played in Estes Park in 1989. It was nice to go back to the picturesque mountains see how the product has developed.”
Coming up on the Band’s calendar of events will be a special Beating of the Retreat Parade on October 9th hosted by the Bermuda Police Service and the Commissioner of Police. This will also be at the Flag Pole in Hamilton and will be put on as part of the Police Week celebrations beginning Saturday, October 5th.
