Photos & Video: Labour Day Celebration March
[Updated with video] After the Annual Labour Day road race and speeches today [Sept 2], the Labour Day March got underway with the marchers being lead by a train which invited senior citizens on board for the ride.
Members from both political parties joined with the membership of the island’s different union divisions in participating in today’s march as the group proceeded out of Union Square, then traveled along Victoria Street, took a left onto Court Street and then onto Front Street before turning up Queen Street.
The procession stopped for a short refreshment break outside City Hall, where coolers were packed with chilled water, before continuing onto Cedar Avenue, turning right onto Dundonald Street and ending back at Union Square.
Supporters and spectators lined sidewalks in different areas throughout the route with some joining in along the way while others enjoyed the comfort of a chair and some shade.

You never saw a happier bunch of people.
We cant help it, its in our blood ,don’t get too close its contagious. LMAO
Maybe its because they are fearful for their jobs.
The sad part is that these people were marching next to people in green PLP shirts.
So So sad.
What is fearful is that you see a solidarity of people who are not pleased with the O-oligarchy B-business A-association ,and what’s sad is there’s a certain segment that’s not present, well I’m not surprised its historical and marching to express our concern is nothing new to us something a certain segment wont understand, Oh I forgot they had their little march a few years ago. LMAO
The march is a celebration of Labour. Don’t belittle its value by making it into something it is not!
The funny one the “OBA/UBP broke all broken promises”! LMAO! And how many broken promises did the PLP/BIU break over 14 years! Some people are really BLIND!!!
it was a waste of time and energy!
The march was phenomenal. And it accomplished what marches do; that is it allows one to draw attention to the issues. And for the naysayers, the Progressive LABOUR Party did an outstanding job for labor relations and social services in this country! When in the 30 yrs of the UBP, BDA, OBA…was there ever social programs put in place for Mr & Mrs. Average Bda – childcare daycare allowance, free transportation for Seniors/school age children; free vehicle licenses for Seniors; low income housing; Healthcare for Seniors – Future care….I can go on and on! Wise up Bermuda, there were great things accomplished by the PLp over the 14 yrs. Yes….challenges came over their last few yrs in office
But then, Bermuda was not alone…the world was affected by economic woes. And guess what, Mr & Mrs Bermuda struggles once again. Why? because the OBA led Mr & Mrs Bermuda to believe that they had the solutions to issues that they knew were global (not just local) issues. They tricked us into thinking it was that Labour partys’ fault
Well…some of the OBA marched today…right next to ALL of those made redundant during their short time in office – Where are the 2000
jobs promised on Dec 17th…what happened to making Bermuda a safer place…what happened to ‘we care about Bermuda and Bermudians’ But you cut social programs for Mr & Mrs Average Bermuda as soon you possibly could.
PLp worked for people like me!
.
They borrowed money to pay for those things, many of which they then had to stop, because the PLP could no longer afford them. They were buying votes with other peoples money….Wake up and smell reality.
That’s politricks like OBA/ubp bought votes.
@Neighbour all those programmes did that you mentioned was creat a class of people content with handouts and drain the economy. We have NO money to sustain them so stop bleating about poorly planned iniatives that didn’t teach people how to fish for themselves! The OBA didn’t make people redundant or drain our reserves!! Clearly the lack of understanding of the reality of Bermuda’s economy is lacking in your brain.
The OBA will help those struggling, those that the PLP put out of work.
Nice march……too bad its on the WRONG DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree with you, if you want to send a strong message it needs to be done on a neutral day.
Did someone say the PLp bought votes..better quit while you’re ahead, as persons may begin to blog about the many ways that the OBA bought votes! Allegedly, paying peoples bills, if we voted for them… promising to build community centers…if we voted for them….. BIG promise of 2000 jobs….if we voted for them…. saving the taxpayers money by not driving the GP cars…..if we voted for them! Shall I go on?
Well, OBA…..you bought votes with empty promises……cause, you allegedly paid bills but cut programs; you promised Community Centers…elaborate drawings an all, no word since before the election; )you promised 2000 jobs created, but we’re heading for that number of jobs loss (or more); you promised No driving at all of GP cares. Well GP cars are slowly creeping out!
Empty promises – electioneering!
