Asante Chapman: Sports Personality Of The Year
[Updated] Bermudian teenager Asante Chapman — who attends school in the UK — was honoured recently at the Spelthorne Annual Sports Awards in the UK, picking up the Young Sports Personality of the Year award.
The annual event was coordinated by the Spelthorne Sports Council and Spelthorne Borough Council, and saw awards presented to local players, coaches and volunteers, with Asante being selected as the Young Sports Personality of the Year.
England hockey player Paddy Smith, Asante, and Asante’s PE teacher Nick Elliot:
Asante, who is presently studying at the Thomas Knyvett College in Surrey, is a talented netball player who has represented Bermuda at both junior and senior levels, and has trained with the Elite Netball Academy in England.
She recently represented Bermuda in the World Netball U-21 Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland, and currently plays her club netball with Academy Netball Club, based in Ealing, UK and who play in the Premier and County leagues.
Her success extends off the court, with the former Clearwater Middle School Head Girl previously cutting off her long hair to both raise money for charity as well as donate her hair to the ‘Locks of Love’ organisation. In addition, she was recently made Head Girl at her school for 2013/2014.
