Wednesday: Chewstick ‘Hearts Of Gold’ Tag Day

October 22, 2013

[Updated with video] The Chewstick Foundation will be holding their annual Hearts of Gold Tag Day on Wednesday [Oct 23] to raise funds for general operating expenses to enhance their existing programs and sustain the organization’s service to the community.

Volunteers and artists will be stationed outside businesses in the City of Hamilton to distribute “Hearts of Gold” to passersby with the aim of raising $15,000 toward the charity.

This Tag Day will see the return of their “Virtual Tag Day”, which was pioneered last year to great success. Contributions for the virtual Tag Day can be made today and will remain available until Saturday, October 26th.

They’re challenging the online community to raise more than those on the street. They’ve again, partnered with www.ptix.bm to offer this unique concept which has been praised as a new fundraising model for the non-profit community.

This year they are upping the ante again, giving supporters of the campaign the opportunity to join Bermuda’s first ever Thunderclap campaign to get the word out to the world about their Tag Day on Wednesday. There is a catch however, as they need at least 100 supporters to sign-up in order to activate the Thunderclap across the globe.

The Chewstick Foundation is targeting to raise the funds needed to enable them to continue the work they do to bring our divided community together and help heal age old wounds by providing people the opportunity to express and understand each other in an environment of respect, freedom, love, and truth.

On Wednesday, fortunate passersby will see the return of busking-style performances as artists take their talents to the streets in support of The Chewstick Foundation. Artists will perform busker-style outside, Digicel [Church Street], The Phoenix Store [Reid Street], Rock Island Coffee, Miles Market and the SuperMart on Front St. In addition more traditional posts will be at Butterfield Bank [Reid Street & Rosebank], People’s Pharmacy, HSBC [Harbourview] and The Marketplace [Church Street].

A spokesperson said, “By supporting The Chewstick Foundation, you are not only enabling tham to continue and expand our programmes, but you are also ensuring that Chewstick is able to assist partner charities in furthering their missions by providing a platform and resources that might otherwise not be available.

“Chewstick is also inviting volunteers from throughout the community, high school students, programme participants and Bermuda’s performing artists to donate an hour or two to help to cultivate and enhance the day.
