Clive Taylor Recognised For 36 Years Of Service

October 17, 2013

CVAwardCliveTaylor04MBermuda CableVision this morning [Oct 17] awarded Clive Taylor from the Boulevard Community Club with its latest Community Service Award in recognition of his 36 years of service as a youth programme mentor and football coach.

Mr. Taylor was presented with the award for his volunteer work at a ceremony held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

The event was attended by the Minister of Community, Culture & Sports Wayne Scott, Bermuda CableVision’s senior management team; along with Mr. Taylor’s family and friends.

As part of the Community Service Award, The Boulevard Community Club received a $1,000 donation from Bermuda CableVision towards their youth programme.

Mr. Taylor began coaching football and mentoring the students in 1977 when his predecessor needed a hand with the programme. Mr. Taylor’s devotion and words of wisdom both on and off the football field have been fundamental in laying important ground skills for the young men that participate in the programme who range in age from 11 to 21.

Mr. Taylor ensures the teams have equipment, transportation to games and other items of necessity. He has chaperoned a few teams abroad, helping the youth to learn valuable life lessons through international experiences. He believes that young people are looking for guidance and it is important to listen to them and lead by good example.

Mr. Taylor is also dedicated to helping the youth achieve academic success. He often works with their school teachers to ensure they are on the right track and progressing. He continues to be available to the programme participants as they transition into their college years and he helps them to find jobs that they can be proud of and enjoy.

Mr. Taylor says: “I want to thank Bermuda CableVision for this honour. I feel privileged to coach the young men in the youth programme and to help them achieve their goals. Football teaches team work, dedication and responsibility. The youth have to be accountable to the team and this helps many of them to stay focused and driven.

“At The Boulevard Community Club we want to make the quality of life better for the participants and to help youth in Bermuda live up to their true potential. It takes a village to raise a child and if I am able to help some young men in Bermuda experience something that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do, I know I will have accomplished something.”

Minister Scott said: “Our community is very fortunate to have people like Mr. Taylor who sacrifice their time and devote their energy to helping our youth. Young people are the future of Bermuda and it is important that they receive the support they need to navigate their path in life. On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, we extend our congratulations to Mr. Taylor on receiving this award.”

Terry Roberson, General Manager of Bermuda CableVision, comments: “Mr. Taylor is an asset to our community and to the young men in the Central Pembroke area. He has taught many of them how to win both on and off the field by teaching essential skills for life. In many cases, Mr. Taylor has been considered the father figure that many of these young men never had. Today we celebrate his endless community spirit and kindness.”
