I’m sure SAGE thinks this is an excellent spending of funds….
Just ask yourself, is this event worth us borrowing money for? And your answer should be pretty simple.
Totally agree, this event is a total waste of time/ money. As a student in London a couple of yeas ago I went to it thinking it would be interesting – turned out it was just an open bar on the government tab – very fun for us but ultimately totally pointless. I’m SO disappointed that this is continuing.
Evidence that SAGE thinks this is a good idea?
Get real Mike:
You know he is being funny, but you continue to feed into the “crazy”. The question is simply –
Do you think this trip/event is a waste of money – Yes or No?
Damn.
Q
I know he’s being funny? Really? You’re assuming a lot.
Now… If I answer this question, will you engage this time, or run away from the conversation like you usually do?
Personally, I’ve never had a problem with this, not now, not when the PLP did it.
See, unlike you, I don’t freak out over every little thing the Government does…
First – I never assume – thus why I ask questions.
Second – I don’t run away from conversations – you might have mistaken me for one of your stalkers on this site – I ain’t the one. If you post something and I do not respond, it is a simple reason – either I resolve that to continue to engage you in conversation on a topic is fruitless as you are not willing to see or understand my point of view/position OR I have better things to do with my time (i.e. work, family, etc.) – - – Not everyone has the ability to sit at work all day and play on their laptop like you do.
Third – thank you for answering the question.
Lastly – I don’t freak out over every little thing the Government does – - it is the simple principle of how people can be willing to accept certain things of this government versus the previous one – nothing more. It is amazing to me that certain people (NOT CLAIMING THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THEM)who just last year were screaming at the top of their lungs about wasteful spending and deemed this actual event as such ARE NOW supporting the same – what’s different? what changed?
And that, my friend, is an amazing question to ponder.
Q
So obviously, either you are giving me a taste of what you must be considering my “own medicine” OR it’s really busy in the Gallery this morning?
Q
If you aren’t going to be honest, why should I bother?
Seriously. If you’re just going to rewrite reality to suit your needs, how can we have a conversation?
I do not understand how you can state that I’ve rewritten anything. Did you actually read my posts above? I remained on the topic of the article – while you have gone off the reservation. It appears you were simply looking to have the final say, maybe? I don’t know – will leave you to ponder that question . . . No response required.
Q
I think it is a waste of money. Convert the cash for this trip into a scholarship for students struggling to pay school fees.
Nothing wrong with this event….An investment in our own people, encouraging them to get educated, gain experience and return home to help bolster the economy!
Sitting back and waiting for the OBA blogging spin team to justify this when 11 months ago it was:
- a waste of money
- an ego trip
- a waste of money
-a junket
- a waste of money
- “who’s going with him anyway and why do they need to be there”
- a waste of money
This should be fun.
Yup, waste of money for sure and an ego trip. Networking for Bermudian students at the Intercontinental Hotel in London. Please. Drinks and dinner on the tax payers.
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
The OBA will have red and blue balloons instead of the green and white ones the PLP, had so the even will be better. Plus they might have a puppet show for a few laughs.
gotta agree, i see money being spent but fail to see any monetary stimulus gained from this. Are they fellow Bermudians going to bring back any large institutions to set up here?or build a hotel?
Hopefully the Premier well address his audience, and suggest to them how grateful we are that we enjoy our status as a Dependent Territory.
Bermuda for Independence
This post explains a LOT.
So Mazumbo, you’d like to increase the cost of university education for Bermudian kids studying in the UK.
Kinda selfish.
the ones who’ll attend are the ones who’ve moved out there for good and see this as a free night to wine and dine on the island they departed. Lol
Dear Premier Cannonier,
Dont watch these lot as they are just upset they havent flown in those electric Club World seats, they are nice and easy to get addicted to, but remember that those same seats and little glasses of champagne led to the removal of the Dame and former Premier Cox so try and keep these to a minimum if only to show austerity until MP Bob Richards can show some positive GDP Numbers
Otherwise fly away Son of St Davids and build up your BA Miles so that you can get some free trips after you step down post the next general election and hand it over to MP Dunkley
Nothing wrong with a trip to London and a few black cab rides with a few permanent secretaries or helpers around to carry your bags, not even a fortune 500 CEO doesnt get addicted to that kind of attention.
Stay away from the bangers and mash option in World Traveller Plus if you are flying on your own dime as that dish hurts up ya belly mate
Trips Trips Trips Trips
Will the new premier be hiring an entourage of mirror shaded bouncers?
Will he hire a fleet of limos?
Will he be staying in a $4,000 a night hotel?
I doubt it.
Maybe they should have had people sign up before the event to see who was coming and if it is even worth it. I am a student studying in the UK and it is an 8 hour bus ride from where i am to London so this event isn’t even worth the energy if it isn’t going to be worth it. My point is there are a large number of Bermudians living outside of London so what does the government have planned to attract those outside of London to this event?(Besides drinks and food on the taxpayer’s pocket). Maybe they should have held off this year and got some insight into making this event more appealing to us students studying in the UK. It is not cheap to catch a bus or train to London so i surely will not be wasting any of my money for free drinks and food. Furthermore this is the first i have even heard of this event if i did not come on bernews i wouldn’t have known about it so that shows that this is definitely a money waster!! In my opinion anyways…
It’s amazing to see the amount of dislike directed at premier Cannonier and this event. typical Bermudians. Ya goin bash de whole thing like? NO degree of good may come from this? If given 10 nails and 7 planks of wood it is entirety one’s choice to make something useful out of it or not. My nostrils are stuffed, sinuses actin up from the hatred, disdain, jealously maybe, and personal disgust I smell, lemme step outside – get some fresh air…
My dear one:
Don’t be mislead. The concerns spoken about the event stem from the belief that the monies should be better spent – nothing more. Those words spoken against the Premier may be misguided; however, those opinions are just that – opinions (everyone is entitled).
Hatred begets hatred. One cannot know positive without negative – this too shall pass.
Q
Hilarious. But so true. What does Premier Cannonier plan to get out of this and what will he give to the students? I so wish Minister Dunkley would have taken over. Right now we are on a ship with no rudder.
I would like to see the turn out for this event.
Whilst over there it would be a nice gesture if the Premier formally thanked the tax-paying British public for footing the bill to educate these Bermudian kids. (UK universities are heavily subsidised by the British tax payer)
After all, the parents of these kids if living in Bermuda are not contributing anything to the UK education system.
Maybe the OBA could offer preferential work permits to the Mother country as a thank you?
Do not forget to remind all the Bermudians out there, that our relationship with Britain will remain the same!
Just want to point out this announcement was released AFTER the RSVP by date.
