Woman Admits Causing Grievous Bodily Harm
A 57 year old woman appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Oct 21] where she pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to a teenage cycle rider on 24th August 2013.
The Court heard that Alicia Maynard was driving on St John’s Road and, despite the no right hand turn sign, turned right into Saltus Grammar School’s driveway where she crashed into the teenage on his motorcycle, and the teen was effectively smashed into her car’s windshield.
The victim suffered multiple injuries including a broken bones and many other lacerations and abrasions. His injuries rendered him unable to work for the summer, and he was late getting back to school in the USA.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a Social Inquiry Report and said that he intended to order some kind of community service and driving disqualification.

By the grace of God, my child was not in her path. Throw the book at her!
I was hit by a car in the same place, same circumstance years ago. I used to honk and tell people not to ignore the signs there, but eventually got tired of being sworn at and told to mind my own #@%!& business and gave up. Saltus should take a little more responsibility as well – the behavior of parents at this junction as generally pretty bad.
How many times will Saltus’ parents be allowed to break the law. Just take a look at the traffic jam they create at the lights near Tennis Stadium.
She is NOT a Saltus parent….don’t assume she is..
They’ve got money lol and act as if they can do as they like
Just like the people outside KFC… They must all have kids at Saltus.
Perhaps they sacrifice new clothes , going out, vacations and run on tight budgets too. Not all Saltus parent have money.
gotcha!
At least he wasn’t ineffectively smashed into her windscreen!
that would be a crime
All, she is NOT a Saltus parent and this took place on a Saturday…stop assuming.
Yes. It took place on a Saturday during school holidays.
Seriously? What is wrong with this idiot? However, there are so many terrible drivers here, what does one expect really?
Poor/dangerous driving is coming to a head on the Island. This is a very good example of it. Very soon someone is going to get killed! There is another case in Supreme Court just now with similar circumstances.
How often do you see people running stop signs/traffic lights these days, not indicating when turning – causing or almost causing a serious road accident.
The police need to enforce the law, clamp down on it before it is too late. We as individual drivers need to take responsibility for our poor driving – if you almost cause an accident and its obvious you did something wrong apologize and get back into the habit of driving with due care!
Even though she is not a Saltus parent and this did not happen during school hours, it doesn’t change the fact that Saltus parents very often do exactly what this lady did but they just haven’t hit anyone yet. I see parents do this on an almost daily basis and they need to stop as it’s very dangerous. So, yes, she’s not a Saltus parent but the next time it may very well be one of the Saltus parents who feel that the traffic sign does not apply to them.
You do realize that this lady has nothing to do with Saltus, and the accident happened at 5.00pm on a Saturday during school holidays, don’t you?
@Suzie Quattro. Did you actually read my post before you typed your response. Can you not read or do you have selective vision? I started my post with the statement “Even though she is NOT a Saltus parent and this DID NOT happen during school hours…” Try reading it again but slowly this time so that you don’t miss anything.
So an accident happens on a Saturday afternoon in August, and you (and others) see that as a reason to criticize Saltus parents. Gotcha.
@Suzie, I see that you must be one of those Saltus parents who ignore the sign and bust a U-Turn across incoming traffic. Who feels it knows it. And for your information, I was a Saltus parent, but I never made that turn. I obeyed the laws of the road and the signs. Stop trying to defend wrong.
In my opinion, I think that the parents who are collecting students from Saltus daily, as well as the parents that collect the kids from dance class on Reid Street, need to know that “THEY DO NOT OWN THE DAMN ROAD”. Everyday motorist on St. John’s Road are forced to evade careless parents who persist in blocking the road way, or those who leave their cars to go look for their kids. WHERE ARE THE POLICE? Secondly the parents that clog up the Reid Street extension dropping off and picking their kids up from the dance studio across from ChopSticks, BERMUDA WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON?
Police are indoors playing solitaire or at the donut shop
Really? You sure about that?
I go cross every afternoon at 5. and EVERY AFTERNOON THERE ARE PEOPLE TURNING INTO SALTUS… They need police there to ticket it was only a matter of time that someone was going get hurt
