Court: Man Disqualified/Fined Following Collision

April 28, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [April 28], a 62-year-old man was disqualified from driving and fined after he admitted causing grievous bodily harm by driving without due care and attention.

Mr Hewitt Caines was disqualified from driving all vehicles and fined $1,500 after he admitted causing grievous bodily harm by driving without due care and attention on Middle Road in Devonshire on 4th March 2016.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that Mr Gilbert had driven into the path of the motorcyclist.

Mr Gilbert told the Magistrate: “I believe that I stopped … I didn’t see him.”

Saying that he was self-employed and needed to drive in order to do business, Mr Gilbert asked that the Magistrate not take him off the road.

The Magistrate replied saying that his hands were tied because the law required a mandatory disqualification.
