Local San Shou & Taolu Athletes Off To Mexico
Bermuda San Shou fighters Jermal Woolridge, Sentwali Woolridge, Khalid Pitcher and Taolu athlete Garon Wilkinson will compete in the 1st NORCECA Wushu Tournament being held in Monterrey, Mexico on December 6th & 7th.
The team has been in training since they returned from a successful tourney at the 12th World Wushu Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where Jermal Woolridge won a Silver Medal in the Men’s +90kg San Shou Division. Both Sentwali Woolridge and Pitcher made the quarterfinals to finish 5th at the event.
President of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, Wilkinson competed in three Taolu events and finished 53rd, 54th and 60th respectively. As a result of their fine performances all four athletes were invited to take part in this event.
The team goes into the competition feel confident about their prospects in Mexico.
The tournament will feature athletes from the North American, Central American and Caribbean regions with guest athletes from Brazil, Argentina and Peru.
Teams to watch out for in the Central American region will be host country Mexico and Venezuela.
