Premier Cannonier To Deliver National Address

December 16, 2013

Premier Craig Cannonier will deliver a National Address about the Government’s accomplishments over the past twelve months at 8pm tomorrow evening [Dec 17] on local television stations VSB, ZBM, CITV and WOW Channel 102.

On 17th December 2012 the One Bermuda Alliance denied the Progressive Labour Party a fourth consecutive term when it claimed the majority of Parliamentary seats with 19 to the PLP’s 17.

Premier Cannonier speaking right after the OBA won the election last year:

The OBA won 52 per cent of the popular vote with the PLP taking 46 percent and the record field of 15 Independent candidates just two per cent. In numerical terms the breakdown was 15928 votes for the OBA, 14186 for the PLP and 628 for the Independents.

Last month the OBA released a list [PDF] of what they said were 54 accomplishments, citing various changes such as ending term limits, passing the Municipality Reform legislation, passing new Financial Assistance measures, passed legislation for a Tourism Authority and much more.

  1. Hmmmmm says:

“Twas the night before Christmas…..” and other fairytales.

  2. Kangoocar says:

Congrats OBA on your first year anniversary, I look forward to hearing our premier give his speech on this anniversary!!! The OBA inherited a huge mess left by the plp and what they have accomplished in this year is amazing being the limited funds they have had to work with!!
I am thankful that we will not have to listen to a plp premier this year throwing lies at us!!!!!

  3. Barracuda says:

    Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the Isle ,
    The PLP numpties,
    They cried all the while.

  4. watching says:

    Oh for flips sakes.
After that kerfuffle on friday who the heck wants to watch some scripted fake address.
I would much rather see Premier Cannonier sit in a live interview and answer questions live and direct rather than in some created environment.

    • Mike Hind says:

Yeah, but if he did that, you’d whine that he’s unprepared and not showing respect to the people of Bermuda. Nothing he does will ever be good enough for you.

And, in case you weren’t aware, leaders and heads of state and premiers and presidents and kings and queens and orators and historical figures for a long, long time now, have used a script. It’s not a bad thing. To pretend it’s bad ‘cuz your party lost the election is ridiculous.

    • Sandgrownan says:

Well, according to Crockwell in the house on Friday, the great homophone threatened to disrupt/boycott a referendum.

Plus there was the massive added bonus of driving the numpties insane, all the bile and froth was a joy to behold. I almost think the premier might have been trolling.

But he’s had a good few days….shops open on Sunday’s, alcohol sales on a Sunday, moving quickly on casinos/gambling, Richards talking about Mutualisation and the “well duh” response to SAGE.

What a mess the PLP made.

    • Mike Hind says:

Oh, and kerfuffle? You mean when he did exactly what you said you wanted him to do the other day?

    • sanityisback says:

Too risky. Remember the “This press conference is over” debacle which showed he can’t handle the hard questions. Now he is scripted by the puppeteers in a safe environment.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Will he have to answer plantation questions too?

    • frank says:

by the way in the sage report the cabinet secretary to the cabinet should be writing the speeches so he should get rid of the two speech writers

      • Suzie Quattro says:

So you agree with implementing the Sage report. Great. Let’s start with the Post Office.

    • Mazumbo says:

      Sherrie J, Sherrie J, Sherrie J, LMAO

  5. CommonSensenBda says:

Twelve months later and STILL, we are learning more and more about the shenanigans that pulled the Island down the steep embankment just before the abyss.

    CONGRATS PLP.

    • Kangoocar says:

Plenty more will come out in the future as well my friend!!!

  6. more than enough says:

accomplihments…?hope he mentions the failures too

    • u ank sers says:

Would be a three night event for de plp’s failures lmfao…

  7. more than enough says:

    accomplishments

  8. Stay tuned says:

All you Loyal Opposition supporters,to see how it is done!

  9. sanityisback says:

Since he’ll be talking about Government’s accomplishments it shouldn’t take too long.

    • Kangoocar says:

I think you are confused?? This is the present Premier speaking, not the last one!!!

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Nah, she would talk for for a long time, She would not say anything but guaranteed she would talk for a long long time.

        • Sandy Bottom says:

Well, it used to feel like a long time. She could make twenty minutes feel like five days.

      • sanityisback says:

No not confused. I’ll be short trust me.

        • Kangoocar says:

Thanks, I appreciate you saying you will be short! I have turned 50, so my life is getting short and really don’t have time for your plp defender nonsense!

  10. sage says:

    Yawn.

  11. Tina says:

OBA ,You should let the public know just how bad the mess you were left to deal with !!!

  12. watchfuleyes says:

    don’t bother

  13. Fed up says:

Thank The Lord the new govt is in,can you imagine what Bermuda would be like if the OBA had lost?

  14. We the people!! (1ST) says:

Based on the PDF document of 54 accomplishments, honestly, most of it is nothing of much real significance.

    • Ian says:

      Unless of course your a;

Foreign spouse of Bermudian – especially a wealthy one..
“Senior Executive” [which funny enough includes VPs] that wants PRC
Foreign buyer wanting easier access to our housing market
Foreign invested wanting access to the lions share of local business [i.e. greater than 4o%]
Gaming investor who wants to see his returns on flying 3 small town island Ministers out on his private jet for a “meeting”
And what I expect in the future will be foreign “hospitality investors” [and likely commercial investors in general] who insist on status and a voting right to consider Bermuda

      • Suzie Quattro says:

Paula Cox failed. It’s time for the grown-ups to get things done.

  15. swing voter says:

what do I mark as an accomplishment? Any government other than the lot we’ve endured 2004 – 2012

  16. more than enough says:

what would be significant is if one of these big kats donated their time and service to bermuda and her people….i might consider voting then…after all it is bermuda presently supporting their ‘upscale’lifestyles,

    • Bermy says:

Pretty sure they already had this so called “upscale lifestyle” before they set foot in office, they didn’t and won’t need to steal it, they already had there come up. So many haters in this village in the atlantic. Lets just push things forward as 1 people, 1 Nation

  17. more than enough says:

meanwhile, on the flip side…people are suffering and bermuda continues to fall, further and further into debt..

    • We the People!! (1ST) says:

      Exactly.

    • Kangoocar says:

Funny that??? I didn’t hear you saying that to the very party ( plp) when they started this mess back in 2008!!! Can you please explain why you sat in silence and watched it happen ?????

      • We the People!! (1ST) says:

How do you know these very people commenting sat in silence? In 2008, I am not even sure if Bernews was around to provide an opportunity in which we have today to comment.

        Thank you Bernews for that.

There was nothing political about “more than enough’s” comment. What he/she said is a FACT – people are suffering and Bermuda continues to fall, further and further into debt. That is a FACT. And if you are for Bermuda and the people 1ST you would agree.

What you are saying is an assumption and a blatant attempt to be controversial or divisive. We have moved passed that. Next time, I ask you to add to the conversation without attacking and making wild assumptions.

        • Ian says:

Don’t bother… Kangoocars gratuitous use of ?’s and !’s alone suggests he’s not the most “stable”, rationally-minded individual

      • more than enough says:

i’ve always had my say – unlike you, whose voice doesn,t matter as you have given it to these polititions- u can sit in silence and watch what happens…

      • And...... says:

And by started this mess you mean caused the worldwide financial crisis?

        Blame it on the PLP!

  18. godson says:

It will be nice to hear how both OBA and PLP can work together to help clean up the mess that the FORMER Premier had created…this NEW PLP group sound like they have some good intentions!!!It would be nice to see these two groups working together…”Together we can”- peace

    • Kangoocar says:

The road to hell was paved with good intentions!!! No thanks the plp have not learned their lesson yet!!! If they come out and apologize for the mess they made, then I might start to listen to them!!! Up until now they are still denying it!!

      • Ian says:

You wouldn’t listen to the PLP if they solved world hunger, world peace and single-handedly delivered every nation to economic prosperity. You’re as biased and stuck on stupid as a tea-party convention celebrating Obama’s achievements since entering office…

        • Triangle Drifter says:

Look at what the PLP MPs are outside of their political lives. It should be no surprise that they were utter failures as managers of Bermuda Inc.

The trouble is not enough voters could see past the baseless razzle dazzle pop & sizzle of hollow promises. If you don’t have a Government job how did that work out for you?

      • And...... says:

Oh shut it, PLP long time admitted their mistakes.

If they cured cancer you would still hate them, so please stop your crap!

        • Speckled Hind says:

PLP are the epitome of incompetence. We should all be glad they are finished.

          Crap is their middle name.

  19. LOL (original TM*) says:

Premier you and your party need to be more out in the public and learn to be more people orentated. Do not do this and it and your fall under the PLP smear game just like the UBP.

    LOL
