Chamber To Host Meeting On SAGE Report
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a special breakfast meeting to provide its membership with further information on the SAGE Report, with a particular focus on the potential commercial ramifications of the recommendations.
Chamber President Ronnie Viera noted “We have been working closely with the Ministry of Finance for some time to arrange this information session for our members and we are delighted that the Minister has agreed to join SAGE Chair Brian Duperreault and leading Chamber economist Peter Everson on a panel to discuss the commercial implications of the report.
“The Chamber constantly seeks to provide its membership with access to timely and relevant information and we see this event as another opportunity for our members to gain personal insight into matters impacting their respective industry sectors.”
The breakfast meeting will take place Monday, February 3rd at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Mr. Viera sees this as an excellent opportunity to set the stage for the Budget discussion which will follow later in the month. “A better understanding of the Government’s plans with regards to the Report will be an important backdrop to this year’s Budget.”
The event will also provide the membership with an opportunity to pose questions to the panel.
The panel discussion will begin promptly at 8:30am and a buffet breakfast will be served from 8am onwards. Tickets are $40 for members; $60 for non-members, reservations can be either made online at bermudachamber.bm or by emailing Michelle Smith at msmith@bcc.bm. For further information please call the Chamber on 295 4201.
The PLP held free open meetings to discuss the SAGE report. Now the Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets to discuss the report. But at least they are discussing it.
Where are the Government meetings on SAGE? Will they be holding them prior to the budget, or will the budget not include any SAGE recommendations in it?
The Government should be hosting town halls on SAGE featuring the Premier and Min of Finance, and members of the committees that formulated the recommendations.
However, something tells me that this Premier will never put himself in that predicament.
Cannonier at a Public Meeting. LMAO!
We’ll sooner see snow in Bermuda than Cannonier in public. He’s a nice man, but he can barely string a sentence together without clichés like “urgency of now” or “jobs on the table”.
The OBA powers that be would never let him go to a public meeting that they cannot control!
Ah yes, the Chamber meeting will cost $40. Ther is the little matter of the food not being free, the room not being free, the staff needed to work the room not being free. People who might not have had work that day will have work.
The public meetings will come. Wait for them. I have no interest in attending a meeting hosted by a political party.
Me or Ms Watching, You’re paying for breakfast and prob rental space of room costs. Read the article again for clarification purposes. And don’t compare life to the PLP. Not doing us any justice by doing that.
I bet you the PLP had to pay for rental fees for their meetings as well.
