Photos/Video: RAF Typhoons Land In Bermuda
Five military aircraft from Britain’s Royal Air Force landed at the LF Wade International Airport today [Jan 9], including one Lockheed L-1011 TriStar and four accompanying Typhoons.
According to the RAF website they have a mixed fleet of nine Lockheed L-1011 TriStar aircraft, which are operated by No 216 Squadron, based in Oxfordshire, in the air transport and air-to-air refuelling roles.
The aircraft were previously owned by British Airways and Pan Am and purchased by the RAF in the early 1980s. The six ex-British Airways aircraft were modified into air-to-air refuelling tanker aircraft, while while the three ex-Pan Am aircraft are largely unchanged from their airline days and operate in the passenger role, carrying up to 266 passengers.
The RAF describe the Typhoon by saying they provide the RAF with a “multi-role combat aircraft, capable of being deployed in the full spectrum of air operations, from air policing, to peace support, through to high intensity conflict.”

Ey mate it is about time you get Britain in here, should be a surprise visit, call Marshall law into being and swoop down, get Scotland Yard in here, and while you at it, let them bring Coxall back in so he can uncover the real truth of why the O.B.A./U.B.P made him leave.
Timing would be perfect as those who once were in the hot seat on his departure, is almost in the same seat he left them in, I know some a** going to say what this has to do with anything, the Brits read Bernews also did you know that, all the way in the Mother Country.
Those are some very good shots, almost look like the great work of Raymond ray.

Short selective memory there Duane??? Who was it that offered to take him to the airport? Why, it was none other than Alex Scott.
There was twisting in seats on both sides of the aisle. Too bad he did not stay. We have not had a decent BPS Commissioner since he left.
Triangle drifter I have to agree with you there and yes there were just as many P.L.P that wanted him out of here, but I truly believe that he stepped on the wrong toes in the U.B.P, and his workers stumbled on stuff they were told to leave alone.

any more due? when? usually travel in slightly bigger squadrons. would love to see one in full after burner circle the island at max speed.

Me too!! Just hearing the sonic boom is so exciting!
The squadron was scheduled to depart this afternoon and were moments from moving when the departure was cancelled/delayed due to bad weather in Florida.
A further four jets should have come in this afternoon. The first squadron could leave today or tomorrow. There will be less bang on their take off roll. Typhoons have more efficient engines producing more thrust than the similar looking Tornados to take off. As such, Typhoons don’t require afterburners like the Tornadoes use. That long fire plume won’t be there shooting out the rear but it should be no less impressive if you witness it from Southside.

As a member of Flight Aware , I agree that we have many aviation enthusiasts on Island.
Fyi go to youtube and search low fling fighter jets. You will be amazed.

Do they have work permits to operate here, and if so are they training up a local to take over?
There will be 8 Tornado Fighter jets and 2 tankers arriving next week Friday……

These jets are awesome to watch fly out of Bermuda! The sounds of them will make you stop whatever you are doing! I love to see them like a child!
After a long search it was determined that no natives were able to meet the requirements to fill these positions. You can fill out an application at your nearest AFB. Please include references.
OK; I’m puzzled. Obviously someone knows when these planes are arriving. the Bernews photographs are too good too often to be taken purely by chance. Which, even to my addled mind, says that someone knows when they’re arriving. As a total aviation geek, I find this really irritating…NOBODY lets you know when they’re arriving or leaving!!!
I take vacations specifically around aviation…airshows, specific beaches (yeah…THAT one!!)…yet I can’t get photos locally because nobody lets us know when these planes are leaving!!!
