Flora Duffy Finishes Third In South African Race

Bermudian Flora Duffy recently competed in the 2014 Cape Town ATU Sprint Triathlon African Cup, finishing in third place among the Elite Women group and earning a place on the podium by clocking an overall time of 1:10.06.

Duffy came out of the water in a time of 12:08, after taking 37 seconds in transition, going on to record a time of 37:24 on the bike course. She spent another 32 seconds in transition before completing the run course in a time of 19:26.

The event was the third that Duffy has placed well in already this year.

She joined just under 700 multi-sport athletes at Gordon’s Bay in South Africa in mid-January 2014 to take part in the 12th annual Totalsports Challenge, winning the Totalsports Terra Firma Challenge Individual Women’s title with a time of 04:24:32. The 97km event consisted of a 50km road bike course, 13km road run, 25km mountain bike run, and 9km beach run.

Later in January 2014, Duffy placed second in another South African race, the Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort. The two time Olympian finished the 1.5km swim, 27.6km mountain bike, and 12.1km run course in a time of 3:05:56.

    She is undoubtedly Bermuda’s best athlete at the moment and let’s hope and pray for a medal in Glasgow but I won’t bang on about her talent.
