25 Yr Old Woman Admits New Year’s Eve Assault

March 3, 2014

[Updated] A 25 year old British woman this morning [Mar 3] appeared in the Supreme Court Arraignments where she admitted causing grievous bodily harm to another woman at a New Year’s Eve event in Hamilton.

Natalie Simpson pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to another woman on 1st January 2014.

Justice Greaves agreed that she could remain free on bail but warned her that the fact that she was free on bail should not be taken as suggesting that she was not liable for a custodial sentence.

A police statement after the incident said, “Police are appealing for witnesses in the assault of a 31 year old Smiths woman, that took place at 12:30am on Wednesday Morning New Year’s Day at Pier Six.

“The victim, states that she was at Pier 6 at a New Year’s celebration when an unknown female walked up to her asking her ‘why are you talking to him’. The suspect then assaulted the Smith’s woman.

“This resulted in the victim being taken to the hospital where she required facial surgery. The suspect is described as a white female 5’8 to 5’10 feet tall, thin framed, with dark hair and a British accent.”

    • shaka zulu says:

What ever the out come, she should be deported, when justice has been served..

      • nuffin but the truth says:

as if Bermudian females don’t fight,so by your logic Bermudian female fighters should be deported too.

        • Smh says:

What shaka means that since it states that she is British, send her back to wherever she came from.

Their logic was not hard to understand. Where is your common sense?

          • nuffin but the truth says:

got news for you…all Bermudians are BRITISH!

            • swing voter says:

only temporary amendment to my status….only meant as a thinly veiled pacifier. The FCO can re-institute ‘British Dependent Territory Citizen’ whenever it pleases them. If we don’t behave, they can force us to any other Territory they own, and send the Irish here….

            • Smh says:

Do you see the news emphasize British on every case that is a Bermudian? Them saying British for this obviously means something!

              • nuffin but the truth says:

Truth really gets to some people!

            • yello says:

But not all British people are Bermudian…

            • Mazumbo says:

Let me get this right, if an African Bermudian is British then what that makes an European born in Africa?

              • Mazumbo says:

Was hoping to get an intellectual comment than dislikes!!!!!!!!!!
Guess I was asking for too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                • Herb Adderley says:

Hey Mazumbo, Ralph Com once said :The world is upside down, The best rapper is white, the best golfer is black, and the Governor that we have is the only true African here”. He was born in Kenya, I really had a good laugh at that one. I hope you do too.

              • ImJustSayin says:

                A damn African!!!!

              • Mike Hind says:

Where in Africa? You’re mixing up nationality with something else…

            • The Messenger says:

              nuffin but the truth,

I’ve got news for you. You may subscribe to being BRITISH. I am an African who is ascended from a people who were brought, against their will, to this British Isles of devils and enslaved by the devils from 1616-1834 (218 years of white on African gang violence).

              • whoops says:

I’ve got news for you…we’re ALL African!

Secondly, blacks put their own people in slavery first. Then portugeuse, and other people then whites. did you really feel the 218 years?! no you didn’t…

                • No Big Deal says:

If you really think blacks today aren’t feeling the effects of 218 years of slavery then you are truly blind and no one can open your eyes for you.

              • Sunshine says:

well you have the freedome to go back now if that’s how you feel. All Bermudians came from somewhere, regardless why or how. We are Bermudians of many different descents!

              • Sandy Bottom says:

Yet on another post the PLP doesn’t to be reminded about things that happened two years ago.

      • Sara says:

lots of people know this, news travels fast.

        • nuffin but the truth says:

that’s understandable asit’s a fact, more Bermudians are texting instead of working.

          • sage says:

            And Bermudians are unemployable…

            • WhistleBlower says:

So where do you fall? Worker or unemployed because you seem to dedicate hours at being a public pain in the a** to Beenews stories!!!
How’s that for a cat fight????

            • WhistleBlower says:

And you are idiotic with your narrowmindedness!!!!
However I am willing to stretch your limited bigoted views of Who and What Bermudians are; Long before you set foot on Our horizon Our forefathers built Hamilton. Dockyard and St. George! Darrell’s island was Our first airport!! Hotels were erected employing SKILLED laboures. Masons, carpenters, electricians etc. We did not exploit world citizens for personal gain nor did WE claim lands that were occupied by indigenous people and slaughter, rape nor imprison them while stealing their knowledge and robbing them of patterns along with copywriters of their inventions.
Therefore before speaking vile and hateful thoughts remember THIS country with ALL it’s flaws that gives you opportunities you could never ACCOMPLISH in YOUR homeland!!!?

    • Ppl says:

      What a hater

    • Ignorancemakesmesick says:

You sheep, do some background research before making such a statement! They’re not friends ;)

  5. tugboatannie says:

    “Help, I need someones help”.

  6. Darwin's Child says:

Yep, do your time so your victim can see justice being served and then home you go love.

  7. PLO says:

People shouldn’t judge people from facts unknown this girl could have made an honest mistake. I hope she is sentenced fairly everyone makes mistakes…I’m sure she is paying for it now!

    • bozey says:

A mistake?? Serious?? F****** up someones face so bad the victim needed surgery?! A mistake is f****** off the wrong person!! What the hell are you smokin?!?!?!?!

      • PLO says:

I believe facial surgery actually was some stitches in this case but hey if stitches are classed as that then that’s what it is…the act was wrong but like I said before ppl make mistakes in life.

        • Tricks Are For Kids says:

So…….IF (notice I said if) that were you you would be fine with it and just brush it off as a “mistake”…irregardless of the fact that it was “just a few stifches” she now has a scar on her face that she did not have when she left home. A scar caused by someone elses STUPIDITY….

        • It's about time! says:

You have NO idea what the victim had to endure at the hands of this hooligan!! SOME stitches? You better get your facts straight before going on at the mouth…the victim is scarred, both physically and mentally, for LIFE!!!

          • Ignorancemakesmesick says:

Seen get face lately looks pretty healed up to me!!! Maybe you should get YOUR facts straight!

  8. kat says:

F her she shouldn’t even be out on bail. This whole Bermuda court system is a load of crap!

  9. buzz says:

this lacy is Taking Bermuda system for a Piss !

  10. young observer says:

    Sexual bias?

If it were a young man that caused a women to get surgery because of an unprovoked assualt then I’m sure he would have received about 2 years in prison.

    Am I wrong?

  11. Lennie says:

The victim in this case was severely injured, I know because I assisted her at the party until the ambulance arrived. Her facial injuries were horrific It is not funny hearing all of the comments above about the attacker. Please show compassion and sensitivity. She did the crime, she should expect the time… Then it will be up to our system at Immigration if she is to be deported. I am glad to see the victim is getting better but know that it carries an emotional scar that will be with her a long long time.

    • Tricks Are For Kids says:

      I agree with you 100%….

On aother note she should work on her self esteem and insecurities…….Really?…..you’re going to attack a person for “talking”to someone?……thats deep…..

  12. Bermuda Boy says:

READ THE COMMENTS AND SEE HOW EASILY BERMUDIANS ARE DISTRACTED. Started off with a woman slashing another woman then on to football, smh.

  13. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

When British women get a taste of bermuda they dont know how to act

  14. Shaking My Head says:

My word….what a lot of silly comments. This is a very serious matter. This woman seriously assaulted another woman and sliced her face open…from the bottom of her nose, through her lips and down her chin. It was an awful attack that was completely unprovoked. The victim did not, at the time, even know Natalie Simpson. The victim is now scarred for life!! This should not, by any means, be a ‘slap on the wrist’ sentence. This girl should go to prison and when she is finished her prison sentence, she should be deported. Bermuda does not need people like Natalie Simpson.

    • Porky says:

‘Sliced her face open’ I believe this girl threw her glass…

      • No Big Deal says:

Actually, you are wrong. You should know the full facts. It wasn’t a small injury, it was very serious

        • Porky says:

I didn’t quote it was a small injury only that this girl didn’t physically ‘slash’ or ‘slice’ anyone she threw her drink…

  15. Coffee says:

A most dangerous and vicious attack on another person . Send her to hell !

  16. nok says:

watch this ride slap on the wrist here we come!!smdh only our system will fail us.

    • The Messenger says:

It’s how the wHITE system works–in their own favor. We all know what the outcome would be if the accused were of a different hue.

      • whoops says:

she’s not white, she’s mixed so guess what your argument is flawed….stfu already with this race BS

  17. Common Sense says:

This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on an innocent woman who was completely unknown to the culprit. The victims injuries were very nasty, and the culprit fully deserves to be punished for this criminal attack. I gather she is not Bermudian and if that is the case she deserves to be deported after finishing her sentence. Ensd of case.

    • The Messenger says:

She needs to pay the victim for distress, suffering, pain and physical injury, plus all of the remedial work that has to be carried out to restore her former appearance.

  18. Horrible says:

What she did was horrible. I saw a picture of the victim’s face before her surgery and this was no minor offense. I hope they throw the book at her!!!

  19. Grizz says:

I thought if found guilty you were remanded into custody. And this was Supreme Court?! She admitted to guilt but is allowed bail until sentencing…am I missing something?

    • Sandy Bottom says:

You’re not always remanded into custody. That’s what you’re missing.

  20. SMH says:

There are really some nasty comments on here. I’m pretty sure most of you don’t know the victim nor Natalie.. It seems very typical that the comments are coming from people who hear something and make there own conclusion to what they think has happened. STOP please! This is not much difference to Internet bullying. Natalie is very apologetic to the situation at hand! When under the influence of alcohol we all know the subject to what “can” happen while “under”which they both where. Very awful things where said and done this night and I’m not excusing that fact to what was done was wrong. But when your being “pushed” in the corner what will you do to get out? Please know all facts to what happen before posting you rude comments.

    • Common Sense says:

Sorry SMH but this is complete and utter rubbish. The victim in this case did absolutely nothing to provoke a vicious attrack with a knife – nothing, Nothing. Yes, the culprit might have been heavily under the influence of drink, but if anyone did anything wrong other than her, it might be said to be her boyfriend who might have made a slight, incidental comment to the vixtim who did not know him from a hole in the wall.

And, yes, by all means have a social enquiry report before passing final judgement, but quit trying to blame a totally innocent victim, and place the blame squarely where it belongs – with a very nasty young lady who committed a sewrious criminal assault resulting in permanent injury to the victim.

      • SMH says:

Sorry but you obviously don’t know what happen.. A knife was never involved! Where are you getting your information from?? You need not to comment with false info lovely.

        • Common Sense says:

If SMH knows so much perhaps he or she can enlighten us on exactly what it was that deeply split the victims nose and face and required numerous stitches. I do happen to know what caused these horrible injuries, and the word knife will suffice, but I can be much more specific if necessary. Go ahead SMH let us all know exactly what was used to commit this vicious crime.

    • JMT says:

Natalie is always apologetic to every messy situation she finds herself in, then expects to come out looking like the good ‘ol innocent ‘lil girl! Then when ppl give her another chance she reverts back to the same ‘ol nasty, dirty and selfish ways that are instilled in her! How many times is she gon’ apologize huh? Like I said I know her on a personal level and I like many hv distant ourselves from her because she simply just don’t listen….so guess what? If she can’t listen she must feel….simple! If you cannot handle your alcohol….then DON’T drink! “You make your bed hard you lay in it…or you make thistles you lay in them”! *real talk*

    • Proud Bermudian says:

I completely agree with your statement. I know Natalie personally and I can attest the fact that she is nowhere close to the monster that people are making her out to be. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t defend themselves if they were physically threatened. Natalie is not some psychotic lunatic who in a drunken rage decided to slice someone up for fun. She was provoked when the so called victim decided to throw the first blow, which led to Natalie reacting by throwing a glass back at he in retaliation,or was that also lost in translation. I do agree that it was an unfortunate accident where injuries were sustained but to say that it was unprovoked is more than an understatement, its an outright lie. I strongly urge the public not to pass judgment until you have all the facts, or better yet leave it to the courts to decide!!!!

      • Common Sense says:

It’s fascinating to read Proud Bermudians comments but it begs a couple of questions. Proud Bermudian, were you actually there when this attack occurred? Did you see the victim “throw the first blow”? Can you explain why Natalie’s lawyer did not appear to mention anything about Natalie having been provoked in the first place? Surely, this would have been the first line of either defence or mitigation?

Or are you taking Natalie’s word for your statement? Do you know anyone else who was at the scene who could independently corroborate your statement?

You mention not passing judgement until we have all the facts., but you fail to mention that Natalie plead guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, and the judge had all of the facts. The only thing the judge has to do is to decide on the sentence. As you rightly say, lewt the court decide on that issue because that is the only issue after her guilty plea.

  21. pack her bags says:

Deportation papers should be in order. She needs to go. Any foreigner that disobeys the law with assault of any nature is a risk to others who try and live peacefully on this island. She needs to be deported asap. Go back where you came from because no one wants you here if your going to act the fool.

  22. nonsense says:

Interesting that ppl on here comment without all of the facts. No, this behavior is not acceptable, but I find it hard to believe the two women had no previous interactions at all…It doesn’t make this woman’s actions acceptable, but there are several gaps in this story.

    • Time Shall Tell says:

Previous interactions or not, the actions this woman decided to take are inexcusable & needs to be properly addressed by our legal system.

    • Common Sense says:

Let’s get the facts straight here. The victim in this case had absolutely no idea who the culprit was, or indeed why she was subject to such a vivious and unprovoked attack. If “nonsense” has anything tangible to say that theese two women had interactions before then state them publicly. If not, then please stop the nonsense! And please tell us what gaps are there in this story.

    • SMH says:

Thank you! There is a middle to this story so for these idiots that are commenting and don’t know the “whole” story keep ya idiotic comments to yourself.. But great thinking (nonsense)

      • Common Sense says:

@SMH Would you please enlighten us on what kind of blade was used to slice the nose of the victim to such a degree that she plead guilty to inflicting “grievous bodily harm” on an innocent woman. You say it was not a knife. I challenge you to tell the public exactly what sort of weapon was used in this attack.

  23. Truth is killin' me... says:

    • Common Sense says:

Let me get this one straight. An innocent woman is out with a couple of friends and walks up to a bar to order a drink, and she is attacked and viciously wounded for absolutely no reason. There is not a shred of evidence to say that she had even had a drink before this terrible incident, but “Truth is killin’ me” is saying that she somehow deserves to finish up on the floor with blood pouring out of her face because of the “demon alcohol”. There are some really sick coments on this post but this one sure takes the cake!

  24. Sara says:

It is quite interesting that some think it was a minor cut and others are saying her face was sliced. Wouldn’t the medical records indicate how severe the injuries were?

    • Common Sense says:

@ Sara – Not sure who is saying that the injury sustained by the victim was a “minor cut”. In truth the culprit pleaded guilty to causing “grievous bodily harm”. If it was a minor cut she could have been charged with “assault” or “assault occasioning bodily harm”, or “wounding”. These offences gradually go up the scale, with the most serious being “grievous bodily harm”. Clearly, if the culprit was charged with the more serious offence, and she decided to plead guilty, then you can be sure that the injury was not a “minor cut”.

As for the medical records, these would have been available to the Court, and in the event of a trial they would have been provided in detail, plus the surgeon who treated her injuries would have been called as a witness. This was not necessary for the simple reason that the accused pleaded guilty which means that a fairly brief statement of evidence would have been submitted to the Court.

On the issue of whether the victim was in any way involved in any prior incident with the accused, make no mistake that her defence lawyer would have been all over it like a bad rash! There is not a single shred of evidence linking the victim to the accused prior to this dreadful incident otherwise it would have been stated in mitigation in court.

I would invite anyone making such a nefarious allegation to publicly state what evidence there is and what evidence was provided by the accused that would have given her any reason to inflict grievous bodily harm on a completely innocent victim. I wait with baited breath.

      • JMT says:

@ Common Sense……Very well written and said! :)

  25. Think... says:

She will get no jail time and be on a flight home in the evening…

    • JMT says:

Whatever the outcome she needs to gooooo!!!! She’s digraced her lovely parents and her sister, her clients’ and former clients’ where she works (or if she still even works there). I wld hv fired her!! Someone in the comments said she’s mixed. Natalie is NOT mixed. She a white English girl. I won’t call her a lady coz REAL & mature ladies don’t behave as such!!!!

  26. JMT says:

I know Natalie on a personal level and she ought to be ashamed of herself and I will keep it real here.. She has been spoken to about her selfish way of thinking and her bad behaviour numerous times before this incident by many ppl including myself. Simply because you refused to listen Natalie, looks where it has gotten you now. Your face blurred all on TV, Bernews, the newspaper etc. How do you feel now huh? Wonder what your parents are thinking? Hv you told them the truth or hv you lied to them? I’m sure you’ve disappointed them. This is totally embarrassing on your part. Technically, I and many others that you got rude with, sent nasty text msgs to in the past because you cldn’t get your own way….well honey…..we don’t feel sorry for you. You don’t go around assaulting ppl when things don’t go your way. You were told yrs and months ago to change your selfish ways. Because you refused to listen to the advice ppl were giving you, ppl and friends cut you off and distant themselves from you, including your own personal female driver that drove you on a regular basis for 2 yrs. You’ve lied to a lot of us and been caught in your lies. I hope that you hv learnt your lesson from this. You don’t go around hitting, scaring, slicing or cutting up ppl’s face. You get what you deserve now and it’s your own fault. Yes ppl do make mistakes, hopefully you will hv learnt from this. You hv scared this woman for life; and why? Just because she was talking to someone!? Chile puleeze!!! Last time all your former friends checked, this is a free world and ppl can conversate with whoever they like….right? You’re out of order ok, and to act in such an unladylike and violent manner is totally unwarranted. There is one thing God hates and that’s hands that shed innocent blood and that’s exactly what you’ve done. You will hv to answer for this on Judgement day. It’s time for you to go back home to England now….after this you must go. You were given an opportunity to come to an island to better yourself and what did you do? Misbehave in another person’s country. You can’t do that. I hope that you are sentenced accordingly and if you are not deported, then you shld think about leaving…….seriously! And why try cover up your face on the news….embarrassed? SMH

    • JMT says:

You’ve scared someone for life! I really trust that the law will do the right thing & sentence you accordingly…do your time then you get cracking….go home…..we don’t want you here anymore….not after this!!! You’ve burnt your bridges. Take an assessment of your life after this….grow up & stop being selfish. So sad……my Prayers & thoughts go out to the victim. I as an individual stand for what’s right & will defend what’s right. Natalie is wrong! I hope when you read this you’ll see what your former friends were trying to tell you. We’re shaking our heads at you but we’re not surprised that you’ve landed up in this position. Didn’t we warn you if you weren’t careful you’ll head dwn the road of destruction? Well look at you now…..silly girl…..so silly! SMH @ foolishness

    • Hip says:

Girl your crazy you don’t know Natalie as I do she is a sweet quiet girl who has never been in an altercation in her life. This one night was probably the biggest mistake she will ever make. She has learnt from it and has shown complete remorse for her actions. She will deal with whatever happens to her when it comes but know that this is out of character for her she is a lovely girl and is sorry for her actions whilst being intoxicated on that night and for what ms Wheatley and her family have been through since that night.

    • Proud Bermudian says:

You clearly don’t know Natalie at all JMT….sound like someone need a MAWI break!!!!!

  27. Sandy Bottom says:

I guess you don’t that comment was racist? Oh well, we disagree.

  28. Michael R. Dudden says:

The typical MO of Brits in a pub/party type atmosphere, looking to cause GBH to someone else, is to “glass” them. That is, the perp has a glass in hand and just instantly smashes it against the victim’s face, perhaps after breaking the top off first against a wall. The tragedy is that the sharp edges and pointed shards of the broken glass are grossly effective at causing severe laceration injuries. Jealousy over another person that the victim is/was associating with is usually the reason. This case has all the signs of a “glassing”!!!!

  29. JMT says:

Then she has the nerve to board a plane the next day or so and go away and put her business all on Facebook stating she’s away and supposedly hving a good time. Then she turns herself in when she gets back. What kind of foolishness it that? Don’t you think she should have turned herself in and not taken a trip whether it was planned or not!! See…still thinking selfishly….after she wounded someone extensively. And ppl on here talking about she’s a sweet girl….Yeah right!!! Sweet ppl don’t do that if they hv a conscience!! Get Crackin’…time to pack your bags. Like many on here that hv commented, WE DON’T NEED YOU HERE…THE ONLY ONE THAT SEEMS THAT YOU BELONG IS PROUD B’DIAN….AND IDIOT THAT DEFENDS WHAT’S WRONG…’OL FOOL!!! Maybe you’re just like her!! SMH
