Tennis: Bermuda Finish 12th In Santo Domingo
The Bermuda tennis team finished 12th in Mexico, while all the spoils go to Guatemala for the 2014 JDC, JFC Tennis Tournament.
In the final days of play at the Santo Domingo National Sports Park, Bermuda’s Junior Davis Cup Team were beaten by Suriname 2 – 1. Due to time constraints the doubles was not played with the tie having already been decided.
Dylan Powell had his first singles match and was beaten by Joshie Loor 6 – 2, 6 – 2. Powell managed to break his opponents serve three times, but he did not have much success with his own service games. Powell was a bit hard on himself but despite of the scoreline he had a good game.
In the second match Tanner Boyle playing up in the #1 spot, had a dismal day and was handily dismissed 6 – 1, 6 – 0 by Yagil Bergen.
There was jubilation and celebration for Guatemala as they claimed victory in both the Girls and Boys Divisions. It was battles to the end as again both finals were won 2 – 1 with the doubles matches being the decider. The Guatemala Boys defeated Puerto Rico and the Guatemala Girls defeated the host country Dominicana.
The champions in this pre-qualifying tournament will move on to play in the qualifying proper with the United States, Canada and Mexico, to be played in Canada this coming May.
