BHB Updates On Acute Care Wing Construction
BHB has released their latest update on the construction of the Acute Care Wing.
A spokesperson said, “The number of operatives on the site last month surpassed expected maximums, peaking at 610. This is good news for locals in the industry, who account for more than 60 percent of the workforce.
“These numbers will gradually start to fall as each subcontractor completes their work on site.
“Completion of an induction programme, where the importance of infection control and other health and safety matters are addressed, is necessary to work on the site. To date, 2,074 people have been inducted and 535 re-inducted after being on site more than a year. Almost two million hours have now been worked.”
“Inside the Acute Care Wing, floor finishes are nearing completion, partitions are nearing completion, ceiling and light fixture installations are underway in completed areas, and completed areas are being cleaned, having their protection removed, and being cordoned off as restricted-entry zones to protect final finishes and allow testing of air conditioning and heating units.
“The restricted-entry areas include the Emergency Department on the ground floor, the Diagnostic Imaging Department on the first floor, the Dialysis Department on the first floor, and the third floor turquoise ward.
“Work within the main Data Centre and associated data rooms is moving forward rapidly to allow early testing of the data connectivity.
“Also, scaffolding has been dismantled in the atrium and cabanas are being installed.
“Outside, steel work connecting the existing KEMH to the new wing is complete and concrete poured to form the link bridge structure. Curbs and block pavers for the main entrance footpath are being laid. The tower crane has been dismantled, leaving two smaller mobile cranes on the site.
“Stone cladding work on the face of the building continues. Bermuda stone wall work is underway along the ramps for the physically challenged, leading to the new main entrance, and near the South Car Park, with curbs delineating parking bays being installed in that area.
“Power from the substation to the building started just before Christmas; since then, power has been gradually distributed to the many power distribution panels throughout the floors.
“These panels cover specific areas and thus far have allowed various items of equipment, including pumps, air conditioning, and heating units to be commissioned and permanent lighting in completed areas to be energised.”

Come on BHB rather than explaining about the curbs being installed in the parking lot how about telling us how much this one wing has cost us to date, how far over budget and time it is and the expected capital expenditure required to complete it, or would that not make such good reading?
you will never get the truth on that there Y-Gurl…but i hear you.
