Registration Open For Running Of The Bulls 5K

March 28, 2014

The Validus “Running of the Bulls” 5K will take place on Sunday, March 30, with the athletic event inspired by the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Several elite runners [the “Bulls”] will be running the race but will have a delayed start. The elite runners/walkers will try to catch up to the rest of the runners/walkers to the finish line.

A spokesperson said, “Validus Holdings, Ltd. today announced that registration is open for the Validus Running of the Bulls 5K race. The event is being held in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club [MAAC] in support of Beyond Rugby on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Participants, who may run or walk the course, should register online.

“We are delighted to be supporting Beyond Rugby and hosting this exciting and important fundraiser for the third straight year,” said Jeff Sangster, CFO of Validus Holdings, Ltd. “Validus is committed to supporting our local community and this event is a cornerstone of our efforts.

“The Running of the Bulls is a day for families and the public to participate and support Beyond Rugby, and we look forward to a great race this Sunday.”

Start of last year’s Running of the Bulls race:

“Race participants have the option of choosing the 5-kilometer run or walk. There will be prizes awarded to the best runner or competitive walker in their age bracket and t-shirts for the first 400 registrants who pick up their race numbers.

“The registration fee is $37 for the timed run/walk and $30 for the recreational run/walk. There are discounts for MAAC members. All race proceeds go to Beyond Rugby and the Mid Atlantic Athletic Association.

“Beyond Rugby Bermuda is a partnership between the Family Center and the Bermuda Rugby Football Union. Beyond Rugby works with kids at two schools in Bermuda: CedarBridge Academy High School and Dellwood Middle School. Beyond Rugby works with “at risk” kids that tend to get lost in society by dropping out and/or joining gangs.

“Although Beyond Rugby develops incredible rugby players, it is not a rugby program but rather a program for young people. When a young person drops out of school their options become limited. The primary goal of Beyond Rugby is to help kids graduate and to give them options.”
