Premier & Ministers Attending RIMS In Colorado

April 28, 2014

cannonier craig bermudaPremier Craig Cannonier is attending the 2014 Risk and Insurance Management Society [RIMS] Conference & Exhibition in Denver, Colorado this week.

He is accompanied by the Minister of Finance Bob Richards, the Minister of Business Development Dr. Grant Gibbons and Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Derrick Binns.

Several thousand delegates are expected to attend the three day Conference from April 27-30,  and Bermuda will also be represented at the event by members of the Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA], Bermuda Development Agency [BDA], ABIC and ABIR.

The theme for 2014 is ‘Elevate-Take your Knowledge to New Heights’ and will include presentations by leading experts who will share their expertise on trends and business strategies in many areas such as claims management, enterprise risk management and insurance .

Premier Cannonier said, “By attending the RIMS Conference, we’re sending a strong message to the market that we’re serious about engaging with them.

“As we remain consistent with our policies, legislation and proactive attitude to attract international businesses, we’re beginning to see the fruits of our labour; In 2013 there was an increase in the amount of new insurance company registrations.

“Being at RIMS also offers us strategic opportunities to network with the industry giants and Bermuda has earned a significant place at the table. We are one of three leading reinsurance centers in the world with 15 of the top 40 global re-insurers based here.

“We have a high concentration of intellectual capital, great products, a depth of experience and a unique selling proposition -We are literally a one-stop shop. “

While at the Conference, Premier Cannonier will conduct interviews with local and foreign media, address stakeholders at the Bermuda Reception, visit the Bermuda Booth and conduct the traditional Convention walk-about.

  2. Lick My Chicken says:

At this point think they need their own dang jet and with respect, it should be called CannonAir. Ire

  3. Impressive says:

In the words of our brilliant premier,, “Go ride a horse or something”.

    Everyone have a wonderful afternoon.

  4. Coffee says:

Living large off borrowed money !!! Hey , learn to refuse a trip every now and then ! You don’t have to take them all !

    • wow says:

Where were you saying that when your beloved PLP family took all their trips….majority for fun on OUR borrowed money. Oh yeah nothing…hypocrite.

    • Mike Hind says:

Petty smear. Never give up a chance to try to denounce the government, eh?

      • Coffee says:

Hey , stop shouting . I’m apolitical , like Mike Hind . I simply don’t see the sense of spending money the country doesn’t have .

        • Except says:

Except for the fact that this is the biggest insurance conference of the year and if Bermuda expects to maintain its lead in the captive space it’s gotta hustle – no sitting back and expecting business to come to us because we’re the only game in town.

          • Raymond Ray says:

I also agree 100% with you “Except”. Attending this RIM conference is a must for Bermuda, and its citizens future. But of course, many are too asinine and fail to understand the realities surrounding our need to be there…

    • frank says:

I think that it is important for Bermuda to be at this rims event
but mr binns could stay home

  5. enough says:

This is one trip they cannot miss out on. If Bermuda wnants to stay in the forefront of International business this is one of the most important meetings of the year. Do your homework before you make comments on someting you evidently know nothing about.

    • Kangoocar says:

That would stop coffee making comments completely!!!

  6. Will says:

Hopefully when he’s out at night he doesn’t get accosted and set onto by some cannabis using young folk who want to fight..oh wait, that doesn’t happen when you smoke weed, only when you drink booze. Legalise.

  7. Guy Carri says:

My mate skipped the line in Bda to check-in (ok, all good, he is the Premier).

Raise you one: at the destination he got a lift on the “golf cart” to the lounge….that was 3 gates away!!! LMAO

    • Kangoocar says:

You probably had vision problems when your real mate EB would be driven straight out to the plane in OUR limo!!! Never bothering with the check in process at all!! He left that to his CS lackies I can only guess??

      • Kangoocar says:

Forgot to say that I do find your second part really funny though!!!

  8. godson says:

What are is skymiles looking like now???He and EB are just alike….

  9. Unbelievable says:

The Premier has to travel. He is the Government Leader of a major financial jurisdiction. Get it?

Can you imagine if he didn’t go? Some of you all would be moaning,”why didn’t he go to RIMS?” Blah blah blah.

    • Exactly says:

If he didn’t attend the single most important conference of the year he’s be derelict in his duties.

      • Concerned Citizen says:

So why is HE attending? I still have not heard a credible explanation. After all, the PLP always attended too, but let’s be honest here, what can PCC do for us there? Grant and Bob should suffice…..right?

        • Not really says:

For the record the Premier has attended this event every year for decades. I’d argue that this conference is so important that Bermuda has to demonstrate that it’s committed at the highest levels which makes Craig’s attendance pretty much mandatory. [Especially after we've had years of a government that made potential investors feel like they weren't wanted or welcome.]

  10. Unbelievable says:

A pretty good test would be to take a PLP MP with them and see how they manage to “tow” the line.

  11. ABM says:

I think the RIMS Conference has always been one of the most important events where the Bermuda government must show their presence. However, in the words of the OBA, this event is a waste of time, and the peoples money can best be used else where. Funny how when not in the hot seat this event was condemned, now there, it is essential that they be there.

Im just trying to understand the logic used to justify the means to the end. Right now, I am reminded of Dr Brown’s statement, “We had to deceive you.” I feel as if the current Premier is practicing those same words Dr Brown uttered. Because of this and a few other reasons, I see no difference in the way the island is being run by either PLP or OBA.

  12. godson says:

They both have the same agenda…to deceive us
