Video & Photos: Chewstick’s Kitefest Kicks Off
[Updated with additional footage] Crowds of people have made their way to Horseshoe Bay Beach today [Apr 18] for the annual Good Friday Kitefest celebrations hosted by Chewstick.
Those in attendance included Premier Craig Cannonier, Governor George Ferguson, the Mayor from Lyme-Regis in the United Kingdom, City of Hamilton Town Crier, Ed Christopher, one of the touring youth rugby teams, as well as numerous visitors and locals.
The Warwick Gombeys escorted guests from Fairmont Southampton down to the beach and performed on the beach for the crowds, bringing a uniquely Bermudian flavour to the Good Friday celebrations.
Also attending the event was the Easter Bunny, who came down with the Gombeys and posed for pictures with people on the beach.
The event will continue for the entire day, and will showcase a diverse cross-section of Bermuda talent including traditional folk music, acoustic reggae, contemporary gospel and African Dance, as well as a competition to determine Bermuda’s Best Fishcake.
KiteFest featured the island’s largest Kite Competition, with categories including Best Boxy, Biggest Kite, Smallest Kite, Best Design, Best Traditional Kite, Best Innovative Kite Design, Loudest Kite, and even the Ugliest Kite.
We will have significantly more coverage of today’s Good Friday festivities as the day progresses, and in the meantime you can view all of our coverage of Kitefest here, and all our coverage of Good Friday here.

A great day had buy all.
a wonderful and traditional family day in Bermuda — good for Chewstick for organizing it, and many thanks to the sponsors for their generosity in making it happen. Happy Easter All !
Very nice looks like everyone had fun, nice to see some people have time and energy to still make Tissue Paper Kites.
Man they could have at least raked the Beach look at all the seaweed lol.
You think the beach would have been cleaned up prior to this annual huge event… very sad
What’s sad about it?
I didn’t hear a single complaint and I was there for hours.
It actually was a real nice day. Great event that has evolved into something new.
