Football: Bermuda Wins, Advance To Next Round
The Bermuda National Women’s Football team put on an outstanding showing this evening [May 27] to defeat St. Kitts & Nevis 3-1 and advance to the next round of the Women’s Caribbean Cup.
Bermuda was placed in Group 3, matching up against the Cayman Islands, St. Kitts & Nevis, and the hosts Turks & Caicos Islands. Bermuda already played to a 2-2 tie with the Cayman Islands and recorded a 5-0 defeat over the Turks & Caicos.
Bermuda’s starting line-up this evening was Jaeda Smith, Sarai Paul, Teara Thomas, Marley Christian, Ebonie Burgess, Jenay Edness, Dominique Richardson, Cheyra Bell, Akeyla Furbert, Aaliyah Nolan, and Shauntae Todd.
Akeyla Furbert gave Bermuda the lead in the 14th minute, and then Bermuda went up 2 – 0 when Shauntae Todd converted a penalty.
St. Kitts pulled a goal back in the 28th minute, and the two teams went into the half-time break with Bermuda leading 2-1. In the second half, Dominique Richardson gave Bermuda the 3-1 lead which they held until the end of the game.
Bermuda has now advanced to the final round, which will be held in Trinidad from August 17 – 27, 2014.
