Search Continues For Canadian William Grange
[Updated] Police confirmed this afternoon [May 7] that Canadian visitor William Grange has still not been located.
Calling it a “critical priority” to find Mr. Grange, Police have searched by land and sea, used police dogs, and also said they are “following up on alleged sightings in the eastern parishes.”
There has also been a wide community effort to locate the missing Canadian, with numerous locals joining search parties across the island and Bermuda Aerial Media lending their services.
Mr. Grange — who suffers from short term memory loss — arrived in Bermuda last week and has not been seen since Friday [May 2] evening.
The 67 year old was staying at the Cambridge Beaches Resort in Sandys, after arriving for a vacation with his wife. His son John Grange said that he may have went for a walk and become confused.
He was last seen wearing beige pants, a blue shirt, brown jacket and brown shoes and is described as a Caucasian male, 5’9″ tall with white hair.
Mr. Grange’s son has been handing out the flyer below, and on it he notes that Mr. Grange may have a 5 day old beard now. If you would like to print it out, the poster is also available here in PDF form.
Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of William Grange is urged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 immediately, reporting all information.
In addition, John Grange said his father may be confused due to his memory loss and could be hiding, and asked everyone to look in their sheds, backyards and anywhere where someone could hide.
There have been numerous messages left by residents from the Grange’s hometown of Napanee on Bernews’ website and our Facebook page, both thanking everyone for the support and asking all locals to continue to work to get Mr. Grange back home.
Update 2.09pm: Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa said they will be conducting another search for Mr. Grange this evening at 6pm.
“We are asking for volunteers to aid in the search. For any one that wishes to volunteer, to please meet at the main reception at 6pm,” a spokesperson said.
“We would like to plead to the general public to thoroughly search their own property/neighborhoods, regardless of parish.”
I cannot understand people reporting sightings of this man and not approaching him pending the arrival of the police. To just call and say you see someone fitting the description isn’t enough. People please help ease this families pain, if you see someone fitting this mans description stop to him and question him while calling the police.
Where have they said he was spotted?
I hope this gentleman is found safe and sound. My eyes are wide open on the look out.
I hope the search is island wide and they are checking the Eastern Parishes as he could have gotten on the ferry with the End to End Walkers on Saturday unnoticed.
Police have nbot said if this gentleman is a first time visitor or a previous frequent visitor, could be important if he had been coming in the past before his memory was affected.. if so publish things like where he used to stay, places he enjoyed visiting etc as he may have tried getting there in his confused state..
I know its a long shot
An earlier report did say he was a first time visitor.
Any information is good information. I will be out again searching. Just hope he is found soon.
We will find him.
Any chance of getting the school kids out searching in their parishes or at least go into the schools at assembly and show the mans picture to the kids and explain that the man is missing and might be ill. If anyone knows the hiding areas in a locality its the kids that live around there. Plus children notice things others might not … best tell them they wont get into trouble too – just in case they have been somewhere they shouldnt be.
This has got to be awful for the family and after so long it is not looking so hopeful.
I wonder if he wasn’t able to purchase himself a ticket off island…
Just a thought, has his wife or son thought about contact a bank in Canada to see if he has used any of his credit cards to eat or anything. Maybe that would help to see where he has been. You might be able to tell what Parishes he is in. Just a thought. I hope some one can tell them to do that.
Our family would like to thank everyone for there help in searching for Bill. My husband grew up with the Grange Family and we are very close friends of his brother Greg. Praying for the safe return of Bill to his family and wife.
Could the regiment be called to help in the search? Also, like a commentator mentioned before, are there places Mr. Grange likes to visit here? Is he an avid hiker, like caves, a beach person, known to hike on trails, etc? This may help focus the search to particular areas.
Exactly… I totally agree with this as opposed to school kids (for a number of reasons). Let our army guys help the BPS. Hill tops, beach caves, backyards… this is sad.
I too hope that the concern is for Bdians and not just .. Oh, him/her again. Our island needs to stand together.. ALWAYS
Wish there was more I could do from here, Bill is a long time friend and I certainly pray that he is found safe and sound. I do feel for Bill’s family and can’t imagine what they are going through.
Hello Bermuda community – It is so touching to hear how so many of you have come together to help the Grange family at this difficult time. You are all truly amazing. Our Napanee community is so grateful and we are all hoping and praying that we find him soon. We love him dearly. Thank you for everything you are doing to help.
We all hope that Bill will be found safe and very soon, too. We’re all keeping a look out for him. This is a small island. If he’s here somewhere, we’ll find him. Still looking.
Where could he be? I pray they find him soon! Praying for the comfort of the family
My heart goes out to Mr. Grange and his family. I wish to thank everyone who is aiding in the search. Please bring him home safe and sound. Love, strength and much gratitude….xoxoxo
I agree with the comment above that we should bring out the regiment.
Mr Grange (Bill) is my cousin and I would like to say thank you to all for what you are doing in your search efforts. What a wonderful community you have!! I am hoping and praying he is found soon! I wish I could be there to help.
Again, thank you to all!!
Im just curious if he has memory loss why would he even be left alone to go for avwalk alone. Especially at that hour
A search along the shorelines in Somerset should be conducted. What was the motion of the ocean six nights ago?
This whole thing sounds wishy washy, seriously you let this fellow go walkies 10:00 pm at night…..I’m upset at the lack of supervision this fellow had…..next thing ypu know these lot will want to do a documentery…dockudrama over and over…tell me ….do you have life insurance on him?….at what date was it purchased?
Don’t be silly, Mumbo. They probably thought he was asleep or were asleep themselves. They wouldn’t knowingly send him out by himself. My uncle used to wander off in his PJ’s. My aunt couldn’t keep up with him.
While they were asleep …apparently oblivious …to any possability of this happening?….la de da de da?………….really?!!!!
We agave a friend that got to Bermuda Saurday night and Sunday went on a diving excursion. He has been missing since dusk Sunday. We are all so worried and know h to be a responsible , well travel person. He was a photographer and was traveling alone. Any ideas? The authorities said they were optimistic? What is there to be optimistic about at this point?
