Tyler Butterfield Participates In BBA Road Race
The Bermuda Bicycle Association’s [BBA] road racing season continued this past weekend [May 18] with a Madison-Digicel Road Race starting from Southside.
The first lap of the race saw riders ascend Knapton Hill before returning to the start/finish line at Southside where they then completed smaller loops out to Kindley Field Road and then back again to Southside.
Making a rare appearance on the road racing scene was Tyler Butterfield, who was riding for Team Tokio in support of Shannon Lawrence [Team Tokio]. Lawrence won the A category, followed by Mathew Ackland [Team Tokio], and Tyler Butterfield [Team Tokio].
The Team Tokio trio, along with Darren Glasford [Team Winners Edge], worked hard together to bridge the gap up to Dominique Mayho [Team Madison] who had earlier escaped from a lead pack of four riders. Once Mayho was caught, the trio pressed on and managed to unhitch Glasford as well, giving Team Tokio the clean sweep.
The Adult B race saw a sprint finish with Shomari Steede [Social Cycles] taking the win, followed by Daren Dowling [Social Cycles] and Mark Brown.
In the Women’s category, after the first lap, the Team Winner’s Edge trio of Karen Smith, Julia Hawley, and Gabriella Arnold managed to build a sizable lead over the rest of the field and hung on to take the clean sweep, with Smith taking the win, followed by Hawley and Arnold.
In the other categories, Social Cycles took the top three spots in the Adult C Division with Sean Dickinson winning, followed by junior riders Zion Dowling and RaJul Matthie-Shakir.
Kaden Hopkins [Team Winners Edge] recorded another impressive victory in the Junior A Division ahead of Robin Horsfield and Alex Pilgrim [Fast Forward Bicycle Works], while Malik Joell won the Junior B Division ahead of Nicholas Pilgrim [Fast Forward Bicycle Works] and Benjamin Edwards [Social Cycles].
In Junior C action, Alex Southern [Fast Forward Bicycle Works] crossed the line ahead of Adrian McPhee [Team Winners Edge] and Aaron Booth [Team Tokio].
