Football: Bermuda Defeat Guadeloupe 4-3

[Updated: Bermuda defeated Guadeloupe 4-3, with Jaz Ratteray Smith scoring the first goal for Bermuda, and Rai Simons adding a hat-trick.]

The Bermuda U/20 Men’s football team is in the Dominican Republic for the CFU Under 20 World Cup Qualifiers, and are presently taking on Guadeloupe, leading 2-1 as of half time.

Bermuda was placed in group 2 and will play against Antigua and Barbuda, Guadeloupe, and host country Dominican Republic. The winners of each group and the two best second placed teams will advance to the final round, set to be held in Trinidad and Tobago from September 12 through September 19, 2014.

Bermuda’s team includes Detre Bell, William White, Chae Brangman, Justin Corday, Jahquill Hill, Dakai Grant [captain], Zaire Burchall, Rai Simons, Quintonio Lema, Jibri Salaam, Kiuno Cann, Caldre Burgess, Alanzo Parsons, Justin Donawa, Tehvan Tyrell, Jaz Ratteray, Terrance Webb, Chikosi Basden, Calin Maybury, and Mauriq Hill.

Guadeloupe scored first, but Bermuda then added two goals to take the 2-1 lead at the half. We will update as able as the game progresses, and hope to have a full match report after the game.

Update 4.20pm: Bermuda is now up 3-1! They scored in the opening minutes of the second half to take the 3-1 lead. Apologies for the lack of goal scorer’s names, we will have those details after the match concludes.

Update 4.28pm: The goals keep on coming…..Bermuda now takes a 4-1 lead.

Update 4.31pm: Bermuda makes 2 substitutions: Cann for Salaam and Donawa for Brangman.

Update 4.37pm: Guadeloupe just scored, the score is now 4-2. Also Bermuda made another substitution, with Basden on for Burchall.

Update 4.54pm: Bermuda conceded another goal late in the game, and the game has now concluded with Bermuda winning 4-3.

Update 5.13pm: Jaz Ratteray Smith scored the first goal for Bermuda, and Rai Simons then added the hat-trick.

Bermuda will next take on the host Dominican Republic on June 27, and Antigua and Barbuda on June 29.
