Upcoming: Clarien Bank Iron Kids Youth Triathlon

June 27, 2014

Clarien Bank Limited have set Saturday, 20 September, as the 2014 date for its Iron Kids youth triathlon and event registration will begin in August.

Children ages 3 to 14 will be able to swim, bike and run for a chance to win up to a $1,000 Clarien Iron Kids Bank account. This savings account was created several years ago as a result of the Iron Kids triathlon to help build a financially and physically healthy future generation.

It offers an ATM Card and earns a 2% interest rate on an amount up to $10,000. The account is available to children from birth until the age of 18 and will teach children from an early age the basics of money management.

Clarien Bank Co-CEO Ian Truran said: “The Iron Kids triathlon is more than a physical challenge for our youth – it is also financially rewarding for the winners who will be introduced to the importance of financial responsibility and management through the Clarien Iron Kids Bank Account.

“We are thrilled to continue this time-honoured tradition, and encourage all children of every ability level to participate in the event.”

The Iron Kids Triathlon began 26 years ago as a Gibbons Company event and was held at Shelly Bay Beach before it was adopted by the former Capital G Bank. It is now held at Clearwater Beach in St. David’s, consisting of two age group categories: Tiny Tots (ages 3-6) and junior Triathletes (ages 7-14).

The Iron Kids Triathlon race requirements are as follows:

Boys & Girls (Ages 11-14)

  • 200 meter swim
  • 5 mile bike
  • 1 mile run

Boys & Girls (Ages 7-10)

  • 100 meter swim
  • 2.5 mile bike
  • 0.5 mile run

Boys & Girls Tiny Tots (Ages 3-6)

There will also be a free community carnival offering fun castles, face painting, food vendors, a charity raffle and an awards ceremony. Event sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting the Clarien events team at events@clarienbank.com or 294-4972.

A spokesperson said, “Clarien Bank remains fully invested in our community and the development of our youth, supporting several organizations and registered charities throughout the year.

“We offer financial, in-kind and volunteer support for charities and their fundraising events, helping to improve the lives of Bermudians and ultimately strengthen our community. Stay tuned to the Iron Kids website for more information: www.clarienironkids.com.”
