Bermuda U/19 Wins Rugby Opener In Trinidad

July 15, 2014

rugby140714Bermuda came from behind to open their North American Caribbean Rugby Association [NACRA] Under 19 Caribbean Championships in Trinidad with a 14 – 7 win over the Trinidad and Tobago Club Select side at the Fatima College Ground in Port of Spain.

Bermuda had a shaky start playing against a strong wind in the first half. Xavier John got the home side on to the board with a well-executed Try, converted by captain Johnason Alleyen. Bermuda withstood all the pressure the host could throw at them and they did well to keep the score to 7-0 in the first half.

With the wind to their backs in the second half, Bermuda started to play some better rugby in the right areas of the pitch. Bermuda piled on the pressure with Rory Dublin and Kamel Easton, helping Bermuda draw level at 7 – 7 with 25 minutes left.

With eight minutes to go, it was Dublin providing the heroics on another barging effort for a 12-7 lead.

Easton made no mistake on the conversion and it was Bermuda absorbing frantic attacks from the Selects in the final minutes before holding on for the opening win.
