Cushi Ming Releases Cup Match T-Shirts
With the Cup Match holiday just around the corner, local graphic designer Cushi Ming is releasing a commemorative collection of t-shirts in order to help those in attendance to celebrate the holiday. Last year’s designs quickly sold out thanks to their popularity, and their designer expects more of the same this year.
“Last year, I made a decision to give the people of Bermuda a Cup Match t-shirt that they can be proud of,” he said.
Mr. Ming is a self-taught graphic designer who usually creates advertisements, business cards, logos, and flyers, but says he also has a passion for fashion design.
“Initially, fashion design was my career goal; in fact, I still relish the idea to this day,” he said. “In my early twenties, I released a line of hand-painted one-of-a-kind t-shirts that were extremely popular. I think my love for fashion played a major role in the creation of these designs.”
“In the past, I can remember seeing Cup Match shirts that were just a bit too plain and amateurish to properly represent our beloved holiday. As the years went by, with little improvement of designs, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
“It was important to me, both last year and this year, to create a prestigious looking design. Last year I went with a laurel wreath, while this year I created a crest reminiscent of something you’d see at an up class golf or country club.”
The major difference between this year’s design in comparison to that of last year is the omission of the dates of victories for each team; Mr. Ming opted instead for a take on the currently popular “Keep Calm and Carry On” posters.
“I was encouraged by a good friend of mine, Gabriel Wilkinson, to use a variation of the “Keep Calm” design. Initially, I had planned to go with the years again and that design was actually completed at the time of his suggestion.”
“After some last minute consultation with my business partners Janson Cross and Shavaughn Hayward, we agreed that incorporating the “Keep Calm” design not only adds a bit of trend to the shirts, but speaks well to this moment in time as the phrase is currently quite popular.”
Mr. Ming’s shirts will be available from Monday, July 21 through Wednesday July 30 in the Washington Mall on the second floor corridor near Gibbons Home Store. The shirts will sell at a price of $30 for one shirt or $50 for two. Sizes range from small up to 3XL.
“I am just like any other Bermudian: I love Cup Match. I love the spirit, the joy, all the festivities, and especially the rivalry,” said Mr. Ming.
“We all have our team; the most important thing at Cup Match time is that we show our support. What better way to do so than to have your team colors across your chest?”

$30 for a Tshirt!…yup, sure to be a sell out item!
Apparently they sold out last year and were $30 then also I believe. I thought it was too much money then and my view hasnt changed this year. Plus I didnt like the t-shirt, a white t-shirt is boring to me. But to each his own.
I give credit to the gentleman though.
Love the front logo Cush!!!
