CBA English Department Visit TCNP Preschool

Laying a Foundation – With Books!
In observance of the World Book Day initiatives championed by local radio personality and reading promoter extraordinaire, Nikita Robinson, the English Department at CedarBridge Academy recently made a very special presentation to the students of Tender Care Nursery and Preschool (TCNP).
On Thursday, March 5, representatives of the CBA English Department visited TCNP to spend time reading to the children, and to gift each and every one of the students with their very own book to read, and, hopefully, to cherish.
As English Teachers, the high school educators are committed to promoting early literacy and nurturing a love for reading from a young age. By giving children access to books, they hope to help the young students discover new worlds, build language skills, and develop a lifelong habit of reading. It’s no secret that reading provides children with the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world through books. As Dr. Seuss famously quipped, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go”.
Ms. Althea Emery, Instructional Leader for the CBA English Department stated, “We wanted World Book Day to be more than one morning of reading. We wanted to make it all about building strong, confident readers – which in turn builds strong, confident adults, who take the world by storm! In reality, giving a child their own book opens doors they might not otherwise find.”
In total, the teachers distributed 43 books to the little ones, through TCNP Director Keoki Dickenson-Graham, who was full of gratitude for the wonderful gesture. “Thank you, Cedarbridge English Department for your time and generosity in sponsoring/gifting us these special books for World Book Day.”
This was the perfect opportunity for the teachers to share their love and passion for reading, and, after the presentation, it was agreed that CBA would form a partnership with TCNP where, on occasion, staff and/or students would come and read to the youngsters. Can we even imagine the places they’ll go from here?

Well done. Congrats to the donors. I’m sure the children will be excited and their teachers and parents. Proud to be Bermudian.
