Photos: Cup Match Campers In The East End
With the first ball of Cup Match only hours away from being thrown, anxious campers have their “camps” all set up for the holiday weekend. Last night [July 30] we visited the areas of Swing Bridge, Kindley Field, Ferry Reach and Clearwater Beach.
As is tradition, Bermudians have taken to their “camps” for Cup Match, with tents popping up all over the island from east to west. Locals began staking out their spots earlier this week, with tape, rope and spray paint marking the “spots”, many of which have had families camping on them for many years.
Preparation for this weekend starts weeks in advance with investment in equipment and shopping for food and refreshments. Many campers take the opportunity to take vacation days during this period in order to take full advantage of the time.

Go! SOMERSET!!!!!!
Oh! Thanks for the coverage Bernews!
Go! SOMERSET!!!!
Have fun Bermuda and for those of you camping, enjoy the great outdoors.
Holy Smokes!!! Bermudians know how to camp! No poor folks here. Nothing but the best for tent camping.
I have seen alot of tent camping in the US. You don’t see much first class equipment like this. I remember the days of an old parachute off the base, old bedsheets & old tarps. This was before Bass Pro Shop, Dicks or Cabelas.
Hey, have fun.
Just wondering, what are camping fees these days? Adjusted for Bermuda are they about $25-$30 per day? Many US state parks are close to $20 for tent camping, $30 for RV with a utility or two.
Jessh Drifter, you are dating yourself. This is known as “glamping”, also much fun. Fresh air, family and friends, relaxed break from the daily routine. Lighten Up kiddo. This is enjoying Bermuda, having a staycation, creating memories, what’s not to like.
Triangle Drifter… Do you live in Bermuda? Sometimes there are so many US references that doubt it. Kinda reminds me of when in school overseas and followed stuff at home more than residents. Even guilty of calling directory assistance to chat about the weather and hear a familiar accent. We are having a great holiday… maybe a storm (BerthA) next week, enjoy today.
So are you complimenting or criticizing ?
got you wonderin huh?
Put a little chum in the water & look what comes up. HA! Enjoy Cup Match.
hmm. i guess it dun look like this no more after last nights antics, innit.
