Gold Point Archery Tournament Results

Trey Wade fired an impressive 299 out of a possible 360 points to win the second annual Gold Point Archery Tournament held at the Clear Water Gym on Sunday [Aug 10].

Organizers were forced to switch the event to indoors after persistent rain drenched the South Side range.

Wade was consistent form kept the distance between him and Silver place finisher Robert O’Conner who fired a 261 at the size 40 targets on the 18 meter indoor range. William Pickering shot a 227 which was good enough for third place.

Camerin Pickering was on form as he knocked up a score of 281 to win the Cadet Division, ahead of Mikaela Kawaley- Lathan who hit for 265 after a 6 month break from the sport. Imani Richardson picked up the bronze with a respectable 211 in her maiden tournament. the Cadets shot at a size 60 target on the 9 meter range.

Maureen Schuller lead the ladies division with a 270 shooting on the 18 meter. Chari Johnston picked up a silver with a 211 while Martina Smith hit a 165 for bronze shooting at the size 40 target.

Odilio Angeli the lone competitor shooting with the futuristic looking compound bow shot 300.

But the staring shootout on the day took place in the Cub division with 8-year-old Jaydon Roberts out dueling Zahn Richardson. Shooting at a size 60 target over 9 meters, Roberts fired a 274 over Richardson’s 260 with impressive rounds from both youngsters. In the running was Mckenzie-Kohl Tuckett with a 243 to pick up her bronze.

Tournament director and Gold Point Coach Ross Roberts noted that it was impressive that the top three Cubs all shot over 200 in the event, a feat that bodes well for the future of archery in Bermuda.
