Kionje Somner Wins 200m C Final In China
Bermuda’s Kionje Somner won the Men’s 200m C Final during the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
Somner clocked a personal best time of 22.28 to finish ahead of Dwayne Koroka from Papua New Guinea who was second in a time of 22.69 and Vladislav Grigoryev from Kazakhstan who finished third in a time of 22.83, with athletes from the U.S. Virgin Island, Brunei Darussalam, Chad and Puerto Rico rounding out the field.
Following the preliminaries, the athletes are divided into the A Finals, B Finals and C Finals, with the athletes with the fastest eight times qualifying for the A Finals, the next eight fastest qualifying for the B Finals while the next group compete in the C Finals.
Chef-de-Mission Katura Horton Perinchief said, “I had an incredible last day at the track. Lost my voice cheering for Kionje Somner as he won the C final and achieved a personal best of 22.28 at the Youth Olympic games in Nanjing! Amazing way to finish up! Way to go Kionje!”
