Photo Set #2: 2014 Non-Mariners Race

August 4, 2014

The Sandys Boat Club played host to huge crowds on Sunday afternoon [Aug 3] as people made their way to the west by both land and sea for the annual Non-Mariners Race, which sees unusual watercraft take to the water, with most collapsing and sinking only a few feet from shore.

The “non-boats” often have a theme based on news events, and this year was no different, with one float — called “The Sun Sets” — paying tribute to the closure of the Bermuda Sun newspaper, while another played on the now infamous “White Mental Illness” sign at the recent march.

Another float played on the “JetGate” controversy, with the over-sized Dunkley’s Dairy milk carton listing the ingredients as $350,000 missing; 1 Jet; 6,000 PRC, 3 Resignations, 1 NonGaming vote.
