Police Still Seeking Bag Thieves, Release Photos
The police said they are still seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the two individuals that “took part in a brazen daytime theft” from a rental cycle on Tuesday. They released the pictures below, and also added additional information about the suspects:
- “The rider is wearing purple sneakers
- “There is only one mirror on the bike
- “It appears that the front left frame of the bike is cracked
- “The rider appears to be a male brown complexioned, however the gender of the pillion passenger at this point is very difficult to ascertain.”
“Anyone who can assist police in identifying these individuals is asked to contact CIU on 2950011. Or alternately you can contact the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 800-8477,” a police spokesperson said.

A previous statement from the police said, “It appears that around 2:48pm on Tuesday August 5th, three rental cycles with tourist was traveling east on South Road in Warwick near Astwood Park when two unknown individuals on a motorcycle sped past them and removed a handbag from their rental cycle basket, the thieves then made good their escape traveling east on South Road.
“The image of these two unscrupulous individuals stealing in this manner is disturbing and police have commenced an investigation into this incident. We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals on the cycle and anyone with any information is asked to contact CUI on 29-50011.”

LOL – spent over ten years in the most conservative country in the middle east and this is what they do there and trust me people do leave their doors open. Even a lot of vendors would close their stores with just a simple drape or rope and not have to worry about scum thieves.

In one of the images you can see it a bit clearer and it looks to me like a linked gold band.
It’s probably whats left of a pair of handcuffs.
Hopefully a parent will recognize their child and march them straight to the police station

Mom, Dad, Aunt , Uncle, Cousin or Friend…turn them in now and teach them a lesson. Or, protect them and make them think they got away with a crime without consequence and then sit in court when they are up for something more serious.
My mom thought she was protecting my brother when he did petty crimes as well. Did he learn? Did he stop? No. Where is he today? Well, lets just say he does have a rent free 7 year lease and he does have a better view then I do – but he can have it.

I agree. I just copied and pasted the image above into photoshop, used a few filters and can see the face of the front rider which looks like he (or she) is wearing sunglasses. I’m sure with a higher res image, a professional would have a much better image to post.

I would hope if the parent of any of these kids recognize the vest on the rider would question his whereabouts on that day and look to see if they own a pair of purple sneakers.

Aren’t there CCTV cameras all over the place these days – South Road included? They can pick out a car when it is not licensed in 5 minutes – but can they pick out bad guys driving around in broad daylight?
CCTV does not track licensed nor unlicensed cars AND THAT DEVICE (huge investments) NO LONGER WORKS!!!!!!
Hard to believe that anyone who has watched these pictures would not recognize their own child(ren). There are many distinctive items especially the sneakers. I believe the pillion passenger is a male. The knees are square and not rounded like a female also, the shorts are ‘long’ compared to how the young girls like to wear them and she’d probably be wearing sandals.

Having watched to Go-Pro footage seeing these brazen and asshologic scum choose a victim that had not secured their belongings all I can say is thank God there was no two second hitch that caused the victims to run off the road, hit a tree or vere into oncoming traffic.
Come on people. How many ride a bike like this and wear purple shoes.

Bike is clearly stolen….can see handle bars are to the right and the wheel is off center to the left. Good luck finding it now, be in parts in a bush. Waste of time even if someone saw a plate.

It might be time to ban dark visors and full face helmets. Then if someone is caught wearing one they should have a heavy punishment given to them.

When renting a bike are tourists informed of this risk and shown how to secure their belongings in an open basket to avoid this? A well applied bungie chord makes things very difficult for a thief.
Ideally tourist bikes should be outfitted with hard topped, lockable baskets.
Is there footage that can trace if they made turns, to capture their license plate? perhaps the footage needs to be viewed longer to see turn off area. Also I agree, there are so many HD photo apps out there that can easily scan straight through the visor and show facial stuff. We will catch them….(before they discard of their identical clothing) if we all be on the look out!!
BPS have to catch them….the video footage is a gift for them to use imaging technology to see his facial outline right through that stupid visor…I’ll gladly offer up my tax dollars to pay for their future room and board…..IN A JAMAICAN PRISON

I don’t think the one with the bag is female. Look at the largest photo and check out the shoes ‘she’ is wearing – they are huge! I cannot imagine a female wearing shoes that large and bulky.
Maybe she stole them and they didn’t have any in her size at the time.

Because the police put in the description “brown skin” notice how quickly it is accepted as such when clearly the two could easily be either tanned white persons or very light skinned blacks, or other group who do not identify as either. Believe your own eyes and try not to be influenced by the mindset of others including the police. I have seen a clearer version being sent around the internet. They could be either. Whatever race they are, what they did is reprehensible and they should come forward before someone recognizes them.
I DONT agree with the crime committed, and hope when the culprits are caught, they get punished for their crime, but why is it that tourists get complacent about protecting their property when they travel here. Bermuda has the criminal element here just like EVERYWHERE else. People please secure your property at all times.
Because Bermuda is “known” for how nice and friendly its people are. Because we are not in the Caribbean where this is expected. People are supposed to feel safe here. So much for those days.

Wow! This could have been worse that a stolen pocketbook. Tourist are not experienced and this could have caused a serious accident. I hope they are caught and punished. Purple sneakers…..should not be hard to recognize the driver and the cycle. Another thing for us to be aware of when we visit and rent our cycle.
We should pray for these two and all our young people. Most go unpunished for any wrong they do.
