Akeyla Furbert Scores Twice In USC Win
The University of South Carolina Aiken Women’s soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit at halftime to come from behind and defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 3-2 on Wednesday [Sept 10], with Bermuda’s Akeyla Furbert scoring the final two goals of the match.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Casey Marlin and Garcelle Alequine both scored in the first half, and the teams went into the half-time break with Lenoir-Rhyne leading 2-0.
USC Aiken’s Megan Smits cut the advantage to 2-1 with a goal in the 52nd minute, and then Akeyla Furbert — a member of the Bermuda National Women’s football team — piled on two more goals to lead her team to victory.
USC Aiken returns home to face Saint Leon on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
