Junior Fishing Tournament Holds Prize Giving
Prize giving for the Bermuda Anglers Club [BAC] Junior Fishing Tournament took place on a sun soaked Saturday morning at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club [RHADC].
Tournament Director Kip Froud said, “We are really pleased to be able to hold the Junior Fishing Tournament. Fishing is a great family focused past time and the kids get a real thrill from winning a prize in this event. It is also fantastic to see the parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents of the prize winners getting involved”.
Matayah Lee at prize giving with her mother and Michael Batista, BAC club president.
Froud added, “Matayah Lee, age 2, was our youngest prize winner. It’s tremendous to see someone so young participating in this event.
“And we need to give a huge shout out to the father of Ashuntae and Makai Furbert. Unfortunately, the Furbert’s boat broke down during the tournament and had to be towed in.
“Mr Furbert wasn’t going to let that mishap ruin Ashuntae and Makai’s chances. After making sure his family were safe and sound, Mr Furbert came to the weigh station by himself so his children’s catch would be recorded. Now that’s commitment!”
A 39lb wahoo caught by young Ethan Soares was the heaviest fish landed during the tournament and also took out the top fish in the boys’ 7-10 age category.
A spokesperson said, “The BAC would like to express its sincere thanks the sponsors of the Junior Fishing Tournament – Cablevision, Butterfield & Vallis, John Barritt & Son Ltd, C-Mart, Flybridge Tackle and, of course, the RHADC for the prize giving venue.”
Thank you to the organizers. Congratulations to all the young anglers. It was wonderful to see so many children participate. Matayah loves the ocean just like her Daddy and Papas.
Looking forward to next year.
