Over 100 Weigh-Ins At Jr. Fishing Tournament

September 2, 2014

Big smiles and lots of laughter were the order of the day as children from all over the island came to the weigh station on Sunday afternoon [Aug 31] as the third annual Bermuda Anglers Club Junior Fishing Tournament took place.

Tournament organisers from the Bermuda Anglers Club [BAC] were kept busy, with just over 100 kids arriving at the weigh station.

Tournament Director Kip Froud said, “This year’s tournament has been a roaring success. While the weather wasn’t ideal, Bermuda’s young anglers don’t melt in the rain and we were delighted with both the number of registrations and the number of kids that came to the weigh station.”

Ethan Soares poses with his winning fish, a 39 pound wahoo.

The largest fish weighed was a 39 pound wahoo caught by 9-year-old Ethan Soares, and the smallest was a 1.5oz grunt caught by the youngest competitor, 2-year-old Matayah Lee; that grunt was brought to the weigh-in station alive and released immediately after its weight was recorded.

Prize giving will be held 10.00am on September 6 at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club and prize winners will be contacted by the BAC this week.

Mr. Froud noted, “The support of our sponsors means a lot to the BAC and to kids that compete in this event. On behalf of the BAC, I’d like to acknowledge the kind support of Cablevision, Butterfield & Vallis, John Barritt & Son Ltd, C-Mart, and Flybridge Tackle

Well done Matayah Lee,we should not take anything out of water except to eat it. Some species, like whales should not be taken.
